Pediatric Hospitalist (CHIPS) - Full Time Nocturnist NP/PA

Job Overview This is a full‑time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Pediatric Hospitalist position with Atrium Health’s CHIPS team, working a 14‑hour overnight shift (5 p.m.–7 a.m.). The APP is the sole in‑house provider during the shift, with physician backup, and is responsible for admitting and caring for children on the inpatient pediatric floor. Duties include accepting patients from outside hospitals and the ED, responding to rapid‑response alerts, managing cross‑cover calls or Haiku messages, performing bedside reassessments, providing virtual consultations to regional ED sites, writing and reviewing orders, medications, and discharge prescriptions, and documenting all encounters in the medical record. Essential Functions Performs initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments. Documents findings, assessments, and plans of care. Performs procedures such as lumbar puncture. Writes appropriate medication orders and discharge prescriptions. Orders and interprets laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic results. Determines treatment plans for patients. Maintains accurate patient encounter documentation. Serves as a role model and clinical resource in all aspects of job performance. Acts as a patient advocate for the population served. Assists in reviewing and developing clinical and operational policies and procedures for the specialty of practice. Education, Experience, and Certifications 1–2 years of pediatric practice preferred. Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in North Carolina. Must have or be eligible for a DEA license. Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required (NP applicants). Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program required (PA applicants). Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred (PA applicants). Compensation Base compensation within the $59.00 – $88.50 per hour range, based on qualifications, skills, experience, and training.
