About the Role

The Company is seeking a Head of Research to take on a newly created role that involves owning the research agenda from end to end. This includes responsibilities such as hiring, prioritization, publication strategy, and managing the relationship between research and applied teams. The successful candidate will have a track record of running a substantial research organization and must be prepared to lead with a focus on organizational leadership. The role is pivotal as the company transitions to a portfolio of research bets, and the Head of Research will be expected to set and defend this portfolio both internally and externally. Applicants for the Head of Research position at the company should be prepared to demonstrate visible alignment-aware thinking, particularly in the areas of safety and the balance between research freedom and commercial pressure. The role requires a strategic vision for the next 18 months of frontier research and the ability to articulate and defend this vision. The ideal candidate may come from a peer frontier lab, a top-three academic AI group with industrial experience, or a non-AI deep-tech field with a credible AI translation story. The focus of the role is on shaping and protecting the research of others, rather than producing personal research, and the company is looking for someone who is comfortable with this level of responsibility and is capable of leading a large research team through a period of significant change.
