Mini Excavator Operator

Job Type: Direct Hire
Location: Smithfield, VA / Hampton, VA 23661

Job Overview

We are hiring an experienced Mini Excavator Operator to support underground utility construction projects. The operator will assist the Foreman with completing projects safely, efficiently, and according to customer specifications.

Responsibilities

• Operate a John Deere JD35 mini excavator safely and productively.
• Haul and transport the mini excavator and other equipment.
• Assist with excavation and underground utility installation.
• Perform cable pulling, restoration, and other manual field work.
• Deliver and pick up materials, cable reels, steel plates, tools, and equipment using company vehicles.
• Work alongside field crews to complete construction activities.
• Follow project specifications, safety procedures, and company policies.
• Maintain equipment and report any issues.
• Support the Foreman with other field duties as needed.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience operating utility construction equipment.
• Experience operating mini excavators, preferably John Deere JD35 .
• Experience with utility construction equipment such as:
• • Excavators
  • Backhoes
  • Directional drills
  • Trenchers
  • Skid steers
  • Cranes
  • Digger derricks
  • Bucket trucks
  • Crane trucks
• Experience with mole/missile boring equipment is a plus.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) is a plus.
• Ability to meet Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
• Ability to pass required physical and drug testing.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work outdoors and perform physical field work.
• Willingness to follow directions and safety procedures.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
