Assistant United States Attorney (Civil) Location: 880 Front Street, Suite 6293 The Southern District of California (SDCA) is one of the largest U.S. Attorney's offices in the country with one of the largest caseloads. This office prosecutes federal crimes and defends the interests of the United States government in civil cases. SDCA encompasses San Diego and Imperial Counties and includes a branch office in Imperial, California. Responsibilities Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Qualifications You must be a United States Citizen or National. Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable background investigation. You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable. Applicants must possess a J.D. degree (or equivalent) and be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) by the entry on duty date. Law school graduates and current law students taking the July 2026 bar examination may be considered. This is a term position not to exceed September 30, 2029. It may be extended or made permanent without further competition. Must reside in the district to which you are appointed or within 25 miles thereof. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrate quick analytical ability and aptitude for accurately articulating critical case issues. Show superior oral and writing skills, strong research and interpersonal skills, and good judgment. Exhibit excellent communication and courtroom skills and ability to work professionally with attorneys, support staff, and client agencies. Show excellent computer literacy, including experience with automated internet research, electronic court filing, and e‑mail and word processing systems. Salary Assistant United States Attorney pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $87,671 to $197,100 per annum, which includes a 33.72% locality pay. #J-18808-Ljbffr
