Lead Brewer Position Summary: The Lead Brewer is responsible for the entire beer making process, including but not limited to raw material handling, brew day operations, inventory, fermentation monitoring, cellaring, packaging, and ensuring all quality standards are met throughout every process. The Lead Brewer will be permanently assigned to either the Cook St. or Glendoveer brewery and will work primarily as the “point person” at the assigned facility leading day-to-day operations. The Lead Brewer should be ultra-passionate about craft brewing, self-motivated to further their knowledge and problem solve, and bring a fun and inspiring attitude to the team!Lead Brewer Duties and Responsibilities: This job description is intended to describe the generallevel of work being performed; it is not intended to be all-inclusive. Von Ebert Brewing reserves the right to add or delete duties andresponsibilities.Brewhouse and Cellaro Follow established Von Ebert SOPs in all brewery operations, including but not limited to wortproduction, brewhouse CIP, raw material and spent grain handling, FV and BBT CIP, dry- hopping,fining, transfers, tank purges and packaging.o Create and ensure accuracy of upcoming brew sheets from standard templates.o Work with Director of Brewing Operations and Director of Sensory and Innovation on new recipe andprocess developments.o Create, maintain, and adjust SOP’s.Distributiono Assist Director of Brewing Operations and Logistics Lead in communicating availability withdistributors and moving of finished beer between facilities.o Ensure finished goods are prepped and ready for distribution on pickup day.Logistics and Software Managemento Process raw material usage in EKOS Brewery Management software program from brew day to finishedgoods, including but not limited to: batch turns, finings, dry hopping, transfers, and packaging.o Communicate with Director of Brewing Operations and Logistics Lead to ensure raw materials areordered and delivered in a timely manner.o Assist Director of Brewing Operations with staffing and scheduling needs.Inventoryo Assist Director of Brewing Operations and Logistics Lead with monthly inventory and rectifying.o Ensure correct inventory levels are maintained for all raw materials and finished products.Facilities Maintenanceo Maintain brewery building and equipment using proper operating, preventative maintenance andcleaning/sanitation procedures.o Proactively maintain and manage all repair and maintenance issues, ensuring the brewery is keptin “like new” condition.o Create, maintain, and adjust maintenance SOP’s and schedule.Safety and Complianceo Maintain SDS binder and ensure it is up to date.o Understand and apply principles and requirements of FSMA, HACCP, and GMPs in operating a foodmanufacturing facility.o Ensure all safety and security policies and procedures are followed, conduct regular safetytraining, and address all safety hazards immediately.Teamworko Build positive, professional relationships with all brewing staff, ensuring positive morale andproviding a fun work environment.o Build positive, professional relationships with all taproom and restaurant staff, ensuringpositive morale and providing a fun work environment.o Communicate with all staff on upcoming beers, tap list changes, and collaborations/events.o Practice proactive and timely email communication with brewery and restaurant staff.Continuing Educationo Work through the Von Ebert Technical Training Pipeline.o Propose further technical and safety trainings for brewery staff that will add value to thebrewery.Knowledge and Skill Requirements:Experienceo Minimum of three years of brewing industry experience required.o Experience and passion for a wide variety of beer styles is required.Traits We Look Foro Candidates must be highly motivated, self-directed, and results driven, with strongorganizational skills, attention to detail and professional written and verbal communicationskills.o Possess a commitment to quality, innovation, and continuous improvement, never accepting“That’s the way it's always been” as an answer.o The ability to troubleshoot and work independently is a requirement.Education and Knowledge Baseo Certification or degree in brewing science or brewing related field and/or degree/coursework froma recognized brewing school is a plus, but not required.o Strong technical knowledge with all aspects of the brewing process required.o Strong mechanical understanding of the brewing process and equipment required.o Strong working knowledge and experience with commonly used brewery chemicals.o Must possess solid skills with basic mathematical computations and have basic computer functionsknowledge, including MS Office and Google Drive. Inventory management software experience a plus.o Forklift certified or willingness to become certified required.Miscellaneouso Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends during peak business times.
