Administrative Clerk, G9, Tax Assessor - Collector

Job Title: Clerk For Tax Assessor-Collector

This position is responsible for providing clerical support for department operations.

Major duties include:

• Processing and distributing incoming mail.
• Delivering mail to the post office.
• Verifying the taxpayer's motor vehicle insurance.
• Typing, filing, sorting, faxing, copying, and printing documents.
• Monitoring the lobby and directing taxpayers to available tellers.
• Keeping computerized records of handicap plate and placard applications.
• Receiving and signing for merchandise ordered.
• Assisting customers in replacing vehicle registration stickers and license plates.
• Assisting with the printing of tax statements.
• Assisting with stamping and mailing tax statements.
• Assisting with inventory control.
• Assisting in hauling, sorting, and stacking boxes.
• Retrieving old documents for research purposes.
• Shredding documents as appropriate.
• Sorting license plate inventory.
• Serving as Passport Agent as needed.
• Performing any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

• Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
• Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
• Skill in the use of standard office equipment.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.

Minimum qualifications include:

• Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of one (1) year of clerical work experience.
• Must be able to type at least 30 wpm.

Complexity/scope of work:

• The work consists of related clerical duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
• The purpose of this position is to provide clerical support for department operations. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

Physical demands/work environment:

• Occasionally moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.
• Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
• Adjusting or moving objects up to 25 pounds in all directions.
• Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• Operating machinery and/or power tools.
• Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
• Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business.
• Working in small and/or enclosed spaces.

• Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
• Working in noisy environments.
• Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
• Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.

Other requirements/information:

• Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license.
• The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.
• This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.
