Position Summary We are thrilled to welcome applicants to our prestigious Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Residency Program designed to nurture and empower the next generation of mental health professionals! Residency Program Overview Blackbird’s Residency Program will prepare the next generation of Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners to practice with confidence as specialists in child/ adolescent mental healthcare. Residency is a 9‑12 month program designed for recent graduates or those who have not worked under licensure to jumpstart their careers in the field. The program supports the transition from graduate school to professional practice combining clinical experience and didactic learning. Residents will receive tools and support to provide children and adolescents with cutting‑edge diagnosis and treatment, while learning to thrive in an interdisciplinary outpatient model. Residents grow with their colleagues and develop relationships that support their practice and success in the PMHNP profession. After successful completion, graduates will join the Blackbird medical team as senior members for at least 2 years following residency. About the Role Under the supervision of the Director of the Residency Program, you’ll play an essential role in delivering comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, treatment planning, and medication management for children, adolescents, and young adults. You’ll collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to ensure high‑quality care. Key Responsibilities Conduct psychiatric evaluations and assessments, create personalized treatment plans for children and adolescents, including prescribing medications. Collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals—psychotherapists—on integrated treatment plans and medication management. Work from the clinic in Gaithesburg, MD up to 3 days a week as needed. Meet with residency cohort and supervisor to discuss progress and challenges routinely. Provide education and consultation for patients and families. Manage diagnostic testing, including digital and lab results. Participate in weekly team and supervisory clinical meetings. Maintain thorough records of patient meetings and progress and maintain confidentiality per HIPAA regulations. Perform other clinical‑related activities as assigned. Qualifications We’re looking for passionate, dedicated clinicians eager to learn in a first‑year psychiatric nurse practitioner role. Mission‑driven and excited to change behavioral health for youth. Excellent communication skills and adept at collaborative, team‑based work while able to work independently. Open to feedback and eager to learn and grow. Requirements National certification of a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. 12 of your 40 weekly hours must be during our peak “after school hours” (after 4 pm ET or any time on a weekend). Flexibility to work in person at our Gaithesburg, MD clinic up to 3 days a week as needed. Master’s degree from an accredited nursing program (PMHNP, Master’s in NP) and must have graduated in the last ~12 months or have less than 1 year of work experience as a PMHNP. Active PMHNP license and DEA in Maryland (or on track to receive it by the time residency begins). Upon completion, participants will join the Blackbird Clinical Services team for an additional two‑year period, for a total commitment of three years.
