Respiratory Therapist - St. Bernard Parish Hospital - PRN

Responsibilities Perform routine and advanced respiratory therapeutic procedures per established policies and procedures. Review and document all clinical information for each patient. Educate patients and coworkers on procedures and treatment plans. Perform diagnostic procedures, including arterial blood gases, EKGs, and ventilation support. Provide care across all age groups, adapting behavior to respect privacy and individual needs. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, accreditation standards, and privacy policies. Report any suspected unethical or questionable behaviors, ensuring patient safety and confidentiality. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications Education: Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor's Degree preferred. Experience: None required. Certifications: Current license as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice; National Board of Respiratory Care certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist; Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of hire. Knowledge and Skills: Proficient computer skills for data entry and retrieval; effective verbal and written communication; proficiency with Windows-style applications and role‑specific software; strong interpersonal skills. Physical & Environmental Demands Work involves lifting heavy objects occasionally or frequently, bending, stooping, reaching, and standing for prolonged periods. The role requires work on a flexible schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call availability) and exposure to blood, body fluid, and potential hazardous medications or waste. Must comply with occupational safety and use mechanical lifting devices or team lifts as appropriate.
