Job Posting POSITION: Food Service Supervisor LOCATION: District WORK YEAR: 2026/27 school year RATE OF PAY: 12 month non-affiliated salary schedule Position Overview Fitzgerald Public Schools is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and customer-focused Food Service Supervisor to lead the district's school nutrition program. Serving approximately five school buildings, the Food Service Supervisor oversees daily food service operations, ensures compliance with federal and state nutrition regulations, manages staff, and promotes high-quality, nutritious meals that support student health and academic success. The successful candidate will be an organized leader with strong operational, financial, and interpersonal skills who is committed to providing excellent service to students, staff, and families. Essential Responsibilities Plan, direct, and supervise all district food service operations across five school buildings. Ensure compliance with all United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Michigan Department of Education (MDE), local health department, and district regulations. Develop nutritious, appealing, and cost-effective breakfast and lunch menus that meet federal nutrition standards. Supervise, train, schedule, evaluate, and support food service staff. Foster a positive team environment focused on customer service, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Monitor food production, portion control, inventory management, and food quality. Oversee purchasing of food, supplies, and equipment while maintaining budgetary controls. Manage inventory systems and implement procedures to minimize waste and maximize efficiency. Prepare and maintain required financial, operational, and compliance reports. Oversee point-of-sale systems, meal counting, free and reduced-price meal program compliance, and reimbursement documentation. Coordinate with school administrators regarding meal schedules, special events, field trips, and catering requests. Ensure kitchens, equipment, and serving areas meet sanitation and food safety standards. Coordinate required inspections and maintain all necessary documentation. Develop and implement staff training related to food safety, customer service, nutrition standards, and operational procedures. Respond professionally to questions and concerns from students, parents, staff, and community members. Participate in district committees and meetings as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Required: High school diploma or GED Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in institutional or school food service Supervisory experience Knowledge of USDA School Nutrition Programs and federal meal pattern requirements. Serv Safe certified or ability to obtain upon hire. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices Proficiency with GoogleSuite and food service management software. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to analyze financial reports and manage budgets. Valid Michigan driver's license. Preferred Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Food Service Management, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field. School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) Credential or willingness to obtain. ServSafe® Manager Certification or ability to obtain upon hire. Experience managing multiple food service locations. Experience with school nutrition software and point-of-sale systems. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Strong leadership and team-building abilities. Excellent customer service, presentation and communication skills. Knowledge of federal and state school nutrition regulations. Ability to interpret policies, regulations, and financial reports.
