Science Lab AssistantThe purpose of this position is to provide laboratory and administrative support to the Division of Mathematics, Sciences, Technologies, and Business (MSTB) at the Annandale Campus. The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting with the management, inventory, preparation, and maintenance of laboratory materials and equipment used in a variety of science courses, including biology, chemistry, geology, and physics. In addition to laboratory responsibilities, the Laboratory Assistant performs administrative duties related to record keeping, inventory tracking, safety compliance, and other operational needs of the division.Duties and tasks include setting up science laboratory experiments, overseeing all aspects of inventory, keeping labs clean and organized, working collaboratively with other laboratory staff, performing routine office support activities, applying knowledge of basic office practices, cooperating with and assisting instructors with location and storage of laboratory materials, performing routine maintenance and repair of equipment, and working some evenings and weekends.Minimum qualifications include knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and the proper handling of chemicals and equipment, ability to work in a collaborative work environment with a team, time management and organizational skills, ability to learn new technologies, ability to work well under supervision, and detail oriented skills.Required qualifications include experience in chemistry and/or preparing science laboratory materials, experience and familiarity with basic software programs, including Microsoft Excel, and experience with maintaining chemical and/or equipment inventory.Each agency within the Commonwealth of Virginia is dedicated to recruiting, supporting, and maintaining a competent and diverse work force.
