Full-Time Counselor I, Drug and Alcohol Intervention Services for Youth (DAISY)

JOB SUMMARY : Drug and Alcohol Intervention Services for Youth, or DAISY, provides intervention and education services for substance abusing youth ages 13 to 18 who are referred by self, parents, schools, Social Services, Behavioral Health, Probation and Juvenile Drug Court.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Provides direct service to unit clients through counseling relationships in the treatment program.
• Provides individual, family, and group counseling for youth and families.
• Intake and assessment
• Provide a safe and positive environment for youth
• Network with all collaborative agencies at Silver Star Resource Center to provide adequate support services to clients and their families
• Open and maintain client files, including case notes, treatment plans.
• Generate, collect, and prepare data for agency and collaborative reports
• Facilitate Seven Challenges Program with youth
• Provide services to walk-ins, including client phone intakes and crisis appointments
• Maintain caseload & assist in program development
• Facilitate external activities
• Provide public relations for the program
• Perform administrative functions as delegated by the Program Officer

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The Counselor II position requires clinical skills, as related to the Unit where employed. This key position must be able to assess the therapeutic needs of the clients. The incumbent must also work closely with the Program Officer to implement program directives and develop ongoing program policy.

• Candidates for this position must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work and two years related work experience.
• The equivalent combination of education, related experience may be substituted for the above.
• Preference will be given to persons with clinical supervisory experience.
• Bilingual/bi-literate/bi-cultural
• Valid California driver’s license and auto insurance required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

• Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position
• Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions
• Manual dexterity sufficient to write, use the telephone, computer, calculator and office machines at required speed and accuracy
• Vision sufficient to read handwritten and printed materials and the display screen of various office equipment and machines
• Hearing sufficient to communicate in person and hold telephone conversations in the normal range;
• Speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distances on the telephone and addressing groups
• Physical stamina sufficient to sustain light to medium physical labor for up to 8 hours, sit and/or walk for prolonged periods of time
• Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment for sustained periods of time on hard flooring, climb slopes, stairs, ramps and to respond to emergency situations
• Physical strength sufficient to periodically lift, carry, push and/or pull 40 pounds of materials or supplies; occasionally lift, carry, push and/or pull more than 40 pounds with assistance

Starting pay $4,875 - $5,925 a month D.O.E. Additional 5% stipend if Bilingual and Biliterate in English and Spanish. Generous benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage. AA/EOE.
