Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
Location: Houston, TX | On-Site
Base Salary: $185,000–$250,000
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Chief Technology Officer to lead technology strategy, software development, IT operations, and a major legacy-platform modernization initiative. This is a working leadership role for someone who enjoys staying close to the technology while leading teams and driving execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the modernization and migration of a mission-critical, data-intensive platform from IBM i to a modern technology environment.
- Own the migration from RFP and vendor selection through implementation, cutover, and stabilization.
- Manage software development and IT operations teams totaling approximately 12 professionals.
- Develop and execute short- and long-term technology strategy and roadmaps.
- Remain technically engaged through code reviews, database design, architecture discussions, data validation, and troubleshooting.
- Manage technology vendors, project plans, budgets, schedules, risks, and deliverables.
- Oversee cybersecurity, disaster recovery, business continuity, and technology risk.
- Build the technology foundation for future products and services.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of software development/technology experience with 5+ years in leadership.
- Must have prior hands-on software development experience.
- Experience leading a significant production platform or legacy-system migration.
- Strong vendor management, RFP, and software project management experience.
- Knowledge of modern application technologies, relational databases, REST APIs, and cloud platforms.
- IBM i, RPG/CL, and DB2 for i migration experience is highly valued but not required.
- Experience leading technology teams in a small or mid-sized organization preferred.
This is not a delegate-only CTO position. The successful candidate will be a strategic leader who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and working alongside the team.
