Job Summary Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer Intern for Summer 2026 to help our Software Engineering (SW) team meet the technical performance requirements on complex system development programs. This position will be working on a variety of programs and writing (C,C++,C#, Java and Python) software that runs on the hardware we develop. The position will also execute an interdisciplinary process to ensure that the customer and stakeholder needs and requirements are satisfied in a high quality, trustworthy, cost efficient, and schedule compliant manner. The purpose of the internship is to provide meaningful professional hands-on experience to students with proven academic performance and leadership potential. Students will also get to utilize our companies flexible work schedule.Job ResponsibilitiesWork under the direction of the Software Engineering Manager, Software Engineering Technical Director, and Lead Software Engineers on various Software Engineering activitiesMay code using C/C++/C#/Java to complete coding assignmentsSource code management of new and/or modified codeMay use MATLAB and/or Simulink software in the performance of assignmentsWork closely with and assist engineers in the conduct of various engineering assignmentsCarry out basic work instructions that will help in understanding the fundamentals of the Company and also learn new thingsConduct limited scope testing under the supervision of engineersComplete assigned tasks on timeGather and assemble data for engineersMay be required to help in research in a particular fieldConduct design analysis and/or calculations under the supervision of engineersAssist engineers with appropriate design detailsMust have good interpersonal skills and have the ability to build a good networkPerform a wide variety of tasks to gain familiarity with the engineering staff, methods, programs and practicesSupport, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organizationOther duties as assignedQualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED, and currently a Junior or above in a Bachelor's program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalentMust have good interpersonal skillsExcellent analytical and communication skills, written and oralDesired Knowledge: Basic knowledge and familiarity with: C, C++, C#, Java, Python, gitKnowledge of Windows, Linux, or a real time operating systemProficient use of Microsoft Office productsThe salary range for this position is $41,011.00/year- $53,315.00/year for the state of Illinois. This range reflects the good faith estimate of pay the employer is willing to offer at the time of posting.
