Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree. Must obtain a Secondary Texas Teacher Certification in the specified subject assignment area within two years of the hire date. Must have professional experience within the relevant field. OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree and a valid Secondary Texas Teacher Certification in the specified subject assignment area. Must be highly qualified in all areas of teaching assignment.
Note: Any degree, diploma, high school equivalent, or course hours required to meet minimum qualifications must be from an accredited educational institution. Pre-employment conditions require acceptable results from mandator • pre-employment drug test • finger printing, criminal records check, and driving record check; • Fitness-for-Duty Assessment which may include both physical and behavior evaluations. Requirements for Continued Employment: Obtain and maintain certification in TJJD's Use of Force techniques, which requires physical restraint of juveniles. Obtain and maintain certification in First Aid and CPR. Failure to maintain required certification/licensure will result in termination of employment This position is subject to mandatory pre-employment drug testing and any offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results from a drug screen conducted for the agency. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • Knowledge of state and federal education laws and regulations.
• Knowledge of subject matter to be taught. • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative
solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. • Ability to implement Texas Education Agency (TEA) education policies and procedures.
• Ability to review and implement agency policies, procedures, and operating guidelines.
• Ability to convey and interpret information to students. • Ability to lead discussions. • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with students, parents, administrators, and other professionals involved in the education of agency youth.
• Ability to work under stressful conditions, with possible occurrences of extreme heightened stress.
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders and maintain a professional, courteous demeanor.
• Ability to keep accurate files and records.
• Ability to work in excess of 40 hours per work week and/or be on-call. - Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible.
- Completes required documentation in the event of an accident/injury within requested time frames.
