Setnix, a Setna iO company, is an FAA- and EASA-certified repair station delivering high-quality maintenance, repair, and overhaul solutions for the aviation and aerospace industry. Based in Tempe, Arizona, Setnix specializes in APU and main engine teardown, inspection, testing, repair, overhaul, and certification of high demand rotables and aircraft components. 

The Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining machine tools to manufacture, repair, and restore precision aircraft and engine components. This position works with equipment including lathes, milling machines, ID/OD grinders, and CNC equipment to perform machining operations in accordance with engineering drawings, technical specifications, and required tolerances.

The Machinist supports the repair of APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) and Main Engine components and ensures completed work meets applicable quality, engineering, and customer requirements.

Job Responsibilities

• Setup, calibrate, and operate machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, ID/OD grinders, and CNC equipment. 
• Machine, grind, fabricate, assemble, and repair precision aircraft and engine components. 
• Perform machining and grinding of various repair coatings and materials, including chrome and metal-sprayed components. 
• Repair and machine APU and Main Engine components in accordance with applicable repair specifications and approved technical data. 
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD files, technical specifications, and repair instructions. 
• Perform machining operations to specified dimensions and tight tolerances. 
• Measure and inspect workpieces and finished components using appropriate precision measuring equipment. 
• Verify dimensions, tolerances, finishes, and other required characteristics throughout the machining process. 
• Select appropriate tooling, machine settings, speeds, feeds, and machining methods based on the work being performed. 
• Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of machining equipment. 
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. 
• Work closely with Quality, Engineering, and Production personnel to resolve  machining or dimensional discrepancies. 
• Participate in process improvements to improve quality, efficiency, and machining operations. 

Qualifications

• Previous machining experience or demonstrated knowledge of machining operations. 
• Experience operating lathes, milling machines, ID/OD grinders, CNC equipment, or similar machine tools. 
• Experience machining or grinding repair coatings, including chrome and metal-sprayed components, preferred. 
• Experience repairing or machining aircraft, turbine engine, APU, or Main Engine  components preferred. 
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD files, and technical specifications. 
• Strong understanding of machining processes, shop mathematics, measurements, tolerances, and metal properties. 
• Ability to use precision measuring instruments to verify finished parts meet required specifications. 
• Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently work within tight tolerances. 
• Ability to follow established safety, quality, and production procedures.

Physical Requirements. 

• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. 
• Ability to stand for 3–7 hours during the workday. 
• Ability to frequently walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive movements as required by the position. 
• Ability to push and pull materials, equipment, or components as needed. 
• Ability to use hands and fingers to handle tools, equipment, and parts throughout the workday. 
• Ability to perform job duties safely in a shop/manufacturing environment.
