Unit Description: CNA procedures include standard opening/closing steps plus task-specific protocols. Opening steps: review the care plan, gather supplies, knock, identify the resident, explain the task and get consent, ensure privacy, perform hand hygiene/PPE, and adjust the bed safely. Closing steps: make the resident comfortable and aligned, lower the bed, position rails as appropriate, place the call light and water within reach, ask if they need anything else, perform a safety check, clean equipment, wash hands, report findings, and document. CNAs also assist with bathing/grooming, vital signs, transfers/ambulation, feeding/toileting, infection control, emergency response (choking, seizures, falls), and emotional support.
