Packaging Operator

The Packaging Operator fills bottles with chemical products, sets up and operates basic dispensing machinery, and ensures that each product is sealed, labeled, and packaged according to strict handling specifications. This role involves working in a regulated clean room environment, following detailed work instructions, performing basic math, and entering data into computer systems. The position requires strong attention to detail, consistent adherence to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds while supporting an analytical, process-driven production operation.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate basic machinery to dispense chemical products into bottles according to established work instructions.
• Fill bottles with chemical reagents and ensure accurate volumes and proper handling at all times.
• Seal bottles and other containers in accordance with handling specifications and quality standards.
• Label bottles and packages accurately, ensuring all required information appears clearly and correctly.
• Package finished products using approved materials and methods to protect product integrity.
• Transfer finished products physically to inventory locations and update inventory status as required.
• Follow detailed written work instructions and standard operating procedures for all production tasks.
• Enter production data accurately into computer systems, including basic use of Word, Excel, and email.
• Perform basic math calculations at a high school level to support accurate filling, counting, and documentation.
• Work in a clean room environment while fully gowned, maintaining cleanliness and contamination control at all times.
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally throughout the day as part of production and inventory handling.
• Use hand dexterity and fine motor skills for assembly, packaging, and labeling tasks, including work under a microscope when required.
• Adhere to GMP and other regulatory requirements, following strict processes and documentation practices.
• Collaborate with a small team of 5–6 colleagues, supporting cross-training and rotation through different areas to maximize production.
• Maintain a strong focus on quality, identifying and escalating any issues or deviations from specifications.
• Follow all safety procedures, including the use of safety glasses, gloves, and other personal protective equipment.
• Support an analytical, detail-oriented production environment that differs from traditional high-speed manufacturing.
• Participate in cross-training across multiple areas of the production and packaging process to build versatility.

• At least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment performing labor-intensive tasks.
• Experience in medical assembly or similar regulated production environments is highly suitable for this role.
• Ability to perform basic math at a high school level to support accurate filling, counting, and documentation.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds throughout the day as part of production and inventory activities.
• Basic computer skills, including the use of Word, Excel, and email for data entry and communication.
• Strong attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset, with a keen eye for identifying errors or inconsistencies.
• Comfort working in a clean room environment while fully gowned from head to toe.
• Ability to follow detailed work instructions and standard operating procedures consistently.
• Good hand dexterity for precise packaging, labeling, and assembly tasks, including work under a microscope when needed.
• Ability to cross-train and perform multiple tasks across different areas of production.
• Clear and effective English communication skills to understand instructions and document work accurately.
• Reliability and consistency in adhering to GMP and other regulated production practices.

• Previous experience in medical device or medical assembly environments.
• Prior exposure to GMP practices, particularly in mid-size or larger manufacturing organizations.
• Experience using SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
• Background in clean room packaging, inventory handling, or analytical production environments.
• Familiarity with microscope-based inspection or small component assembly.
• Willingness to learn new processes and cross-train across multiple production areas.

Work Environment

The organization develops and manufactures reagents for in vitro diagnostics, supporting product lines in infectious disease, hepatitis, endocrinology, bone and mineral metabolism, cancer, brain injury, cardiac markers, therapeutic drug monitoring, and autoimmunity. You will work closely with a team of approximately 5–6 individuals in a regulated, GMP-compliant facility. A significant portion of the work takes place in a clean room environment, where you will gown up from head to toe and wear safety glasses, surgical gloves, and a lab coat each day. Clean room time typically accounts for about half of the day, with the remainder spent in adjacent production and packaging areas. The environment is analytical and process-oriented, with strict procedures and documentation requirements, and it differs from traditional high-speed manufacturing. You will use basic machinery, computers, and standard production tools while rotating through different areas as part of a cross-trained team.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Stillwater, MN.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.50/hr.
