Roaming School Health Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Salary: Teacher/Professional Salary Schedule (see "Master's 1A" column) Days: 190 Verification of work experience is required to calculate salary. Please attach verification of work experience on company letterhead, signed by authorized personnel. Qualifications: A valid South Carolina license to practice as a Registered Nurse with a minimum of five years of RN experience. Must be certified (or obtain certification) in CPR and First Aid, and must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license. Must be willing to obtain instructor status for CPR and First Aid. Complete online application. All documents must be uploaded. Applicants will be contacted if selected for an interview. BCSD requires a negative tuberculosis test result before employment begins. JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Roaming School Health Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

FLSA: Non-Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under general supervision assists in ensuring that the district Vision, Mission and Goals are achieved and provides nursing care to ill and injured students according to the policies and procedures of the district and health services. School Health Substitute Licensed Practical Nurse reports to the School Principal/Health Services Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Consult or cares for a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness at school;

Reports all emergencies to Health Services Coordinator;

Dispenses Medication per physician orders and Berkeley County School District policies;

Performs medical procedures per physician orders;

Monitors infectious and contagious diseases and reports to Health Services Coordinator, then DHEC as directed;

Completes accurate medical documentation;

Performs vision, hearing, dental, height/weight, blood pressure, BMI, and scoliosis if requested;

Makes recommendations (after consultation with Health Services Coordinator) to school on health needs of individual students, and advises the parent(s) of the need;

Head lice checks;

Performs prescreening for sports physicals; and Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Valid South Carolina License to practice as a Practical Nurse with a minimum of three years of experience as an LPN. Certified in CPR / AED and First Aid. Possess a valid South Carolina driver's license.

Knowledge

Job requires a basic knowledge of developmental stages, communicable diseases, and general nursing care. Ability to use computers.

Job requires the ability to work independently and in collaboration with others; ability to receive and apply oral and written instruction. Good written and oral communication, organizational and time management skills.

Working Conditions

Physical demands are restricted to general activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to 35 lbs. Berkeley County School District is a smoke free district.

Responsibility
