Power Engineer, Platforms Engineering

This is a specialized role which requires physical interaction with hardware equipment in a simulated data center environment, utilizing Google labs, power, and safety equipment. Regular development and processing of engineering hardware must be performed on site. Minimum qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 2 years of experience working with power converter design including DC/DC converter design and board bring up and debugging. Preferred qualifications Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Experience in power system design. Experience with analyzing and organizing data. Knowledge of power electronics fundamentals and various power conversion designs for data center power delivery. Knowledge of power converter modeling and simulation. About the job Our computational issues are so big, complex and unique we cannot just purchase off-the-shelf hardware; we must build it ourselves. The Platforms Team designs and builds the hardware, software, and networking technologies that power all of Google’s services. In this role you will design and build the systems that are the heart of the world’s largest and most powerful computing infrastructure, taking them from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design through high‑volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into data centers, affecting millions of Google users. You will manage projects across multiple areas and monitor the performance of vendors and new technologies. As a Power Engineer in Technical Infrastructure, you will play a key role in developing one of the world’s fastest growing computing infrastructures. You will work with a team to deliver innovative power solutions for point‑of‑load applications, designing, analyzing, optimizing and implementing board‑ and chip‑level power topologies and controls for large‑scale point‑of‑load applications including ASICs, FPGAs and processors. Individual pay is determined by factors including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $132,000 – $190,000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits. Responsibilities Innovate and design board power conversion specifications and solutions. Analyze performance, cost, reliability and availability trade‑offs. Support projects that involve new technologies or new uses of multiple existing technologies. Partner with power‑industry leaders to lead the evaluation and adoption of the most engaging technologies. Engage cross‑functionally to ensure successful roll‑out, testing and complete validation.
