Position: HR Business Partner Associate

Reports to: HR Business Partner (HRBP)

Location: Brooklyn, NY

Hours/Schedule: Full Time, 35 hours per week

Salary Range: $60,000 - $60,000

The HR Business Partner Associate provides day-to-day support to the HR Business Partner (HRBP) in delivering Human Resources services to assigned programs, departments, and people managers across Brooklyn Community Services. The position assists with employee relations, performance management, manager support, employee engagement, workforce initiatives, and HR projects while developing knowledge and experience in the HR Business Partner function.

Working under the direction of the HRBP, the HRBP Associate helps coordinate HR activities, maintain documentation, follow up on employee and manager needs, and support the consistent delivery of HR practices. The position serves as an HR resource while escalating complex, sensitive, or higher-level matters to the HRBP or HR leadership as appropriate.

Responsibilities:

• Provide day-to-day support to the HRBP in serving assigned programs, departments, and people managers.
• Assist the HRBP with maintaining regular communication and follow-up with assigned managers and departments.
• Respond to routine HR questions from employees and managers and escalate matters requiring additional guidance to the HRBP.
• Assist with gathering information and documentation related to employee relations and workplace matters.
• Maintain organized and confidential documentation related to employee relations, performance management, and other HR matters.
• Support the HRBP with employee relations follow-up, including scheduling meetings, gathering relevant information, documenting action items, and tracking outstanding items.
• Assist with the preparation and coordination of performance management documentation, including coaching documentation, corrective actions, and performance improvement plans under the direction of the HRBP.
• Track performance-related action items and follow up with managers regarding required documentation and deadlines.
• Support the HRBP in identifying recurring employee concerns, workforce trends, and opportunities for improvement.
• Assist with manager communications, resources, tools, and other materials designed to support effective people management.
• Participate in meetings with managers and departments alongside the HRBP as appropriate.
• Assist with gathering employee and manager feedback to identify HR needs, concerns, and opportunities.
• Support employee engagement, retention, recognition, and employee experience initiatives.
• Assist with organizational change, program transitions, and workforce initiatives coordinated by the HRBP.
• Support workforce planning activities by maintaining trackers, compiling information, and assisting with follow-up.
• Coordinate with other members of the Human Resources team on recruitment, onboarding, employee changes, and other HR activities affecting assigned departments.
• Assist with recruitment and talent acquisition activities when needed, including interview coordination, candidate communication, and hiring-manager follow-up.
• Support onboarding and integration of new employees within assigned departments in coordination with the appropriate HR team members.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of HRBP tools, templates, checklists, trackers, and manager resources.
• Maintain HRBP records, reports, action-item trackers, and other documentation needed to support assigned departments.
• Assist with documenting HRBP processes, procedures, and best practices.
• Support HR projects, manager trainings, employee communications, and organizational initiatives.
• Compile basic HR information and data to help the HRBP identify trends and prepare recommendations for HR leadership.
• Help ensure HR requests and employee matters are followed through to completion in a timely manner.
• Maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate discretion when handling employee and organizational information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of Human Resources experience, preferably in an HR Coordinator, HR Associate, HR Generalist, People Operations, or similar role.
• Exposure to employee relations, performance management, recruitment, onboarding, or general HR operations preferred.
• Basic working knowledge of federal, New York State, and New York City employment laws and Human Resources practices.
• Strong interest in developing skills in HR business partnership, employee relations, manager coaching, and organizational effectiveness.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees and managers at all levels.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate documentation and manage multiple follow-up items and deadlines.
• Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information.
• Ability to recognize when an employee or manager concern should be escalated to the HRBP or HR leadership.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of the Human Resources team while managing assigned responsibilities independently.
• Experience working in nonprofit, social services, human services, healthcare, or a similarly complex organization is preferred.
• Experience with HRIS or other Human Resources technology preferred.
• SHRM-CP, PHR, or progress toward an HR certification is a plus.
