Job Description
The EVS Housekeeping professional plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment throughout the hospital. This role performs routine, terminal, and isolation cleaning in a variety of clinical and non-clinical areas, including emergency rooms, operating rooms, offices, public restrooms, clinics, nurses’ stations, and exam rooms. The position involves detailed cleaning of environmental surfaces, handling and transporting trash and medical infectious waste, and moving furniture and equipment to support patient care and hospital operations.
Responsibilities
Perform routine, terminal, and isolation cleaning in assigned areas on a timely basis, ensuring all hospital cleaning standards are met.
Complete high and low dusting of environmental surfaces, including walls, ceilings, vents, and lighting fixtures.
Clean and sanitize restroom facilities, including toilets, sinks, showers, and related fixtures, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment.
Provide floor care such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, buffing, and vacuuming in patient care areas, offices, corridors, and public spaces.
Remove and transport trash and medical infectious waste in accordance with hospital policies and safety procedures.
Move furniture, equipment, and other items as needed to facilitate thorough cleaning and room setup.
Clean and maintain a variety of hospital areas, including emergency rooms, operating rooms, clinics, nurses’ stations, exam rooms, offices, and public bathrooms.
Use cleaning tools and equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, and mops safely and effectively.
Follow established infection control practices and isolation cleaning protocols to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.
Maintain a consistent work pace that supports continuous physical position changes, such as bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching, to clean all environmental surfaces.
Climb stepladders when needed to clean vents, light fixtures, windows, and cubicle drapes.
Perform frequent kneeling and stooping to clean tubs, shower stalls, plumbing, stairs, baseboards, furniture legs, and wheels of furniture.
Carry out constant repetitive hand and arm motions to damp wipe surfaces, operate floor buffers and scrubbers, vacuum, and mop.
Adhere to safety guidelines when working near patients, hospital staff, and exposed patient body parts.
Maintain a reliable work history and demonstrate dependability in attendance and job performance.
Essential Skills
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds safely and repeatedly as part of daily duties.
Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per shift while performing cleaning tasks.
Ability to read, write, speak, hear, and comprehend English to follow instructions, safety procedures, and hospital policies.
Stable work history, with prior positions held for at least 6 months at a time.
Understanding of basic housekeeping and environmental services practices in healthcare or similar settings.
Capability to perform frequent pushing, pulling, and transporting of heavy objects, equipment, and furniture.
Ability to perform continuous physical position changes, including bending, reaching, kneeling, and stooping, to clean environmental surfaces.
Comfort working in areas with frequent exposure to medical infectious waste and hospital environments.
Willingness to occasionally climb stepladders to clean elevated surfaces and fixtures.
Ability to perform constant repetitive hand and arm motions while wiping surfaces, operating cleaning machinery, vacuuming, and mopping.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Preferred: At least six months of cleaning or housekeeping experience, particularly in healthcare or similar environments.
Experience in roles such as housekeeper, janitor, custodian, caregiver, or environmental services staff.
Familiarity with infection control practices and isolation room cleaning procedures.
Comfort working near patients and clinical staff in active hospital settings.
Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
Reliability and strong work ethic, with the ability to follow established schedules and procedures.

Work Environment
This role is based in a hospital setting in Kenosha, WI, working across medical centers and associated facilities. The EVS Housekeeping professional works closely with and near patients, nurses, physicians, and other hospital staff in active clinical environments. The position involves frequent exposure to medical infectious waste and requires strict adherence to safety and infection control protocols. Daily work includes pushing, pulling, and transporting heavy objects, equipment, and furniture throughout patient care and support areas. The job requires continuous physical movement, including bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, and changing body positions to clean environmental surfaces thoroughly. Stepladders are occasionally used to access vents, light fixtures, windows, and cubicle drapes. The role also involves frequent kneeling and stooping to clean tubs, shower stalls, plumbing fixtures, stairs, baseboards, furniture legs, and wheels, as well as wringing out wet mops and removing trash from containers. Constant repetitive hand and arm motions are necessary to damp wipe surfaces, run buffers and scrubbers, vacuum, and mop. Staff may occasionally encounter exposed patient body parts while working in clinical areas, and must maintain professionalism and follow all hospital guidelines in these situations. Attire is appropriate for a hospital environmental services role, supporting safety, cleanliness, and comfort during physically demanding work.

This is a Contract position based out of Pleasant Prairie, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $15.50 - $17.00/hr.
