Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic Writer and Author (Print Journalism) to capture long-form feature stories, clinical breakthroughs, patient journeys, and staff accomplishments at the nation's premier military medical center. You will drive proactive news-gathering, conduct sensitive interviews, and author feature articles for internal and external publications.

Key Responsibilities

· Pitch, research, and write feature articles, news releases, and long-form stories covering clinical advancements and staff achievements.

· Conduct in-depth, sensitive interviews with medical staff, military leaders, patients, and family members using standard patient consent protocols.

· Write and edit copy in AP Style using active voice, news formatting, traditional leads, and clear transitions.

· Collaborate with graphic designers and videographers to package comprehensive multimedia stories.

· Support public affairs operations, including media query responses, weekly communication reports, and distinguished visitor support.

Qualifications & Requirements

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.

· Experience: 5+ years of journalism or professional writing experience with a portfolio of published feature articles.

· Reporting Skills: Proven ability to conduct interviews, gather facts from multiple sources, and write under tight newsroom deadlines.

· Healthcare Ethics: Knowledge of medical ethics and HIPAA/PHI privacy rules when interviewing patients and clinical staff.

· On-Site Requirement: Must be willing and able to work 100% on-site at WRNMMC in Bethesda, MD.

* This position is contingent upon contract award. Hiring and start date are subject to final award notification for the Hospital Communications and Executive Secretariat Support Services contract at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC).
