Software Engineer

J5 Consulting is a Maryland-based company established in 2006 to provide computing and consulting services for government and commercial entities. Our services improve information system networking performance and compliance and protect electronic assets from loss and compromise. Position Overview We are seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain cloud‑based applications supporting mission‑critical systems. The role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands‑on coding, working across the full software development lifecycle, and deploying applications within modern cloud environments. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate requirements into working software solutions, develop and integrate application components, and support deployment and operational activities in AWS or similar cloud platforms. Experience with modern programming languages, cloud services, and DevOps practices is essential. Responsibilities Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate requirements into working software solutions. Develop and integrate application components. Support deployment and operational activities in AWS or similar cloud platforms. Required Skills and Experience Design and develop cloud‑based applications using current best practices and architectural guidelines. Experience in software engineering, application development, or web application development and deployment. Object‑oriented development in a modern language (Java, Go, C#). Front‑end development using modern frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue. Experience developing in commercial clouds such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. Containerized application development using Kubernetes. Experience with orchestration tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Helm. Experience with networking and VPN protocols (OpenVPN, WireGuard, IPSec). Highly Desired Skills Experience with Java or Go. Experience with React, Angular, or Vue. Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP (e.g., EC2, S3, EKS, EFS, Route53, load balancers). Experience with Kubernetes. CI/CD automation (GitLab). System administration experience and related certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network‑related fields. Virtualization experience (VMware or equivalent). Scripting experience (Bash, Python, PowerShell). Security Clearance Active U.S. Government Top Secret Security Clearance with a Full Scope Polygraph is required.
