Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Responsibilities:

1. Assists in the performance of surgical procedures, working under the surgeon's direction.
2. Provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that assist the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient.
3. Demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development, range of treatment, and care of patients appropriate to the ages of patients served.
4. Performs in the role of the first assistant or second assistant

Qualifications:

• Graduate of a Surgical Assistant program
• Certification required as a Certified Surgical Assistant through ABSA, NBSTSA, NCCSA, or NSAA
• Medical Surgical Assistant license through TN Dept of Health with 90 days of hire or transfer
• Graduate of a surgical technology program preferred. Scrub experience is required for this position.
• Prefer 2 years experience as a surgical assistant
• BLS
• Surgical Assistant must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
• High School Graduate / GED
• Certified Surgical Assistant, or Certified Surgical First Assistant, or Surgical Assistant Certified
• Basic Cardiac Life Support, or CPR must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
