Location: 1400 S Dobson Road, Mesa AZ, 85202

Schedule: 4 days a week with 10-hour days from 7:00am to 5:30pm. Monday through Friday, plus rotating nights, weekends and holiday on call.

Day to day: Our IR department runs 2-3 Angio labs every day depending on volume. When fully staffed, we have 9 Neuro Special Procedure Techs and 16 IR nurses. We share 5 IR physicians and 6 PAs with other Banner facilities in the east valley. Each day we are staffed with 1-2 physicians and 1-2 PAs. Our tech's shifts start at 0700 and we aim to have the first patients in the rooms by 0730. We do a combination of body and neuro cases to include (but not limited to) standard lines, tubes and drain placements, DVT/PE thrombectomies, Y90 procedures, chemoembolization, prostate artery embolization's, TIPS procedures, as well as acute stroke thrombectomies and scheduled neuro interventions such as MMA embolizations, carotid artery stenting etc. We are a Level I Trauma Center and now a Comprehensive Stroke Center so we see some of the most acute patients in the Valley.

We have three angio suites. Two rooms are Philips AZURION systems; one is a biplane for neuro cases and the other is a monoplane for everything else. Our third angio suite is a GE INNOVA biplane system that can be used for neuro or body cases.

We perform procedures on adult and pediatric patients. Our pediatric procedures are done under general anesthesia, while adult procedures are typically performed under conscious sedation. Being a Level I Trauma Center we perform procedures on unstable trauma patients. Being a Comprehensive Stroke Center also drives a large percentage of our emergent, on-call procedures.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position performs prescribed specialized high acuity neurologic and body-focused radiographic procedures as directed by following department/facility policies, procedures and protocols. This position ensures optimal care/treatment to patient population.

CORE FUNCTIONS

• Performs radiographic diagnostic/interventional special procedures by following and verifying referring providers' orders. Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures. Can function independently when responding to interventional radiology call back and/or neuro call back.
• Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Demonstrates professional behavior/conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.
• Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation. Prepares and maintains accurate documentation.
• Demonstrates competence in performing prescribed invasive/interventional procedures if applicable in accordance with established policies. Procedures may include mechanical thrombectomy, intra-arterial thrombolysis, brain, head/neck, orbit and spine arteriovenous fistulas, brain, head/neck and spine arteriovenous malformations, carotid artery, vertebral artery, and intracranial angioplasty, coil embolization, balloon-assisted coil embolization, and cerebral and spinal angiography. Demonstrates competency in neuro-interventional radiology procedures in addition to lower-level Special Procedures Technologist role. Also demonstrates competence in the administration of radiopharmaceuticals and other approved medications.
• Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Demonstrates the ability to operate all C-arms within the OR suites (fixed and portable) and troubleshoots and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to radiation safety policies.
• Accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to radiology practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.
• Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services.
• Independently performs prescribed radiographic procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols to patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Certificate or diploma from an approved/accredited Radiologic Technology program. Requires demonstrated competency in neuro-interventional radiology procedures such as mechanical thrombectomy, intra-arterial thrombolysis, brain, head/neck, orbit and spine AVF, brain, head/neck and spine AVM, carotid artery, vertebral artery, and intracranial angioplasty, coil embolization, balloon-assisted coil embolization, and cerebral and spinal angiography.

Requires national certification American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and licensure by state regulatory agency if applicable. Advance certification by accrediting body in specialty required if applicable within 18 months of hire (and/or equivalent clinical experience for Cath Lab only). BLS certification. This position requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with two years of experience. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, analyze data and solve problems.
