The class of Senior Water Quality Control Systems Technician is the leadworker class in this series, and under general supervision in a lead capacity, maintains and repairs pneumatic, chemical, electric, and electronic components, analog and digital networks and systems, analysis equipment, computer control equipment including computers and computer peripherals, and telemetry equipment used in process instrumentation and control systems.Examples of Knowledge and AbilitiesKnowledge of:Electrical and electronic theory and practice as applied to process instrumentation and control equipmentAnalog and digital system fault diagnostic techniques and proceduresPrinciples of chemistry and physicsThe architecture, maintenance and operation of digital computer systemsThe operation of telemetry systemsMaterials, methods, and equipment used in the inspection, testing, calibration, maintenance, and repair of process instrumentation and control equipmentThe principles of preventative maintenanceThe principles of proper maintenance documentationSafety practices necessary for the workAbility to:Direct the work of subordinate techniciansRead and interpret plans, schematics, process control flow diagrams, system/network drawing, detail drawings and wiring diagramsPerform complex maintenance tasks involving analog and computer equipmentPerform some original circuit design work as required to implement minor analog and digital equipment modificationsAnalyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of actionPrepare maintenance service reportsPrepare new and/or modified equipment operating and maintenance proceduresRead, write and speak the English language at a level required for successful job performanceRespond to emergency callsWork day, swing, or graveyard shiftsEmployment QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: Any combination equivalent to experience and education or training that could likely provide the required knowledges and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and ability for this class would be: Either: One year of full-time experience in the class of Water Quality Control Systems Technician in Sacramento County service. Or: 1. An AA or AS technology degree dealing with instrumentation, computers, or electronics, or 30 college level semester units in instrumentation, computers or electronics. And 2. Three years of full-time journey level experience in the maintenance of process instrumentation and control equipment, at least two years of which shall have dealt with the maintenance of computer equipment. Education Substitutions: Additional qualifying education in instrumentation, computers, or electronics may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the general experience on the basis that three (3) semester units equal one (1) month of experience. Note: If the word "experience" is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.
