Buyer III

Overview & Responsibilities The Buyer III independently manages the procurement of moderately to highly complex components, subassemblies, and services for multiple concurrent engineer-to-order projects. This role requires strong supplier management skills, proactive risk mitigation, and the ability to drive performance across a supply base. Buyer III professionals often serve as lead buyers on critical projects and support cost and delivery targets at a higher level of autonomy. A strong technical foundation is required, including the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings to accurately procure customized parts and assemblies. Key Responsibilities Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management: Procure project‑specific and recurring components, including engineer‑to‑spec parts and build‑to‑print assemblies; perform supplier sourcing, evaluation, and selection; negotiate pricing, lead times, and payment terms; monitor supplier KPIs and drive continuous improvement. Project Ownership: Participate in project kick‑off (T1) meetings; manage the purchasing plan from concept through delivery; align procurement with engineering releases and production requirements; coordinate with document control for complete supplier drawings. Problem Solving & Risk Management: Resolve supplier quality issues, late deliveries, and price disputes; identify long‑lead items and place early orders; propose alternative sourcing or expedite strategies during engineering changes or supply interruptions. Collaboration & Process Improvement: Mentor Buyer IIs or interns; contribute to sourcing strategy development, supplier rationalization, and standardization efforts. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business or related field. Experience: 4‑7 years in purchasing or supply chain, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Skills: Proficient in reading technical drawings; advanced ERP (Oracle, SAP, or equivalent) and Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP); strong negotiation and supplier communication; change‑management and ECN coordination; problem‑solving and accountability; cross‑functional leadership. Technical Aptitude: Understand parts functions, specifications, and tolerances. Work Environment & Requirements Standard office environment with occasional supplier site visits; up to 20% travel may be required. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, matrixed organization with global stakeholders.
