Temporary Faculty Pool - Lecturer in Psychology Department Overview: The Psychology department offers rigorous empirically focused undergraduate and graduate degree programs, giving students a strong background in the scientific study of human behavior and consciousness. Position Summary The Department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses listed below. Instructors are responsible for preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading of lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid). Conditional Appointment Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and the California Faculty Association. These provisions state the “Order of Work,” which orders available courses from tenure-line faculty to new lecturer appointees. Appointees must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States (Fresno State is not a sponsoring agency). Compensation Commensurate with qualifications and experience within salary range placement. The salary ranges are established by the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code = 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). For temporary faculty with a Master's degree, the salary is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually near the minimum of the range; actual monthly salary will be adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term. Anticipated Semester The temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed, based on enrollment and funding. The number of positions varies from semester to semester. Appointments are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The pool will remain in place for two academic terms; those who wish to remain beyond that must reapply. Fall 2026: August 19 – December 22 2026 Spring 2027: January 15 – May 26 2027 Required Qualifications Education: A Master’s degree in Psychology or a related field with an emphasis in the relevant subdiscipline. Experience Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level (including documented teaching assistantships or teaching internships). Preferred Qualifications A commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level evidenced through prior teaching experiences and evaluations. Education: A Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field. Experience with a closely related subdiscipline of psychology. Evidence of publications in scholarly journals.
