Job Description The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for Assistant Dean of Graduate Student Services, Graduate College [R0151115] . The Assistant Dean is a senior administrative faculty position that provides strategic leadership, policy authority, and oversight of graduate and professional student services, including adjudication, appeals, and grievance processes. Responsibilities Shape the graduate student experience and institutional systems governing student progression and dispute resolution. Lead student engagement and community‑building initiatives within the Graduate College. Serve as the chief adjudicator and policy authority for graduate student academic appeals and Graduate Assistant (GA) grievance processes. Interpret academic policy, manage cases from intake through resolution, and provide clear, defensible written and verbal decisions. Apply and interpret institutional, system‑level, and federal policies and regulations (e.g., FERPA, Title IX, FLSA). Lead or contribute to graduate student services, student success initiatives, or professional development programming. Demonstrate commitment to fair and consistent policy application across diverse student populations. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or CHEA, obtained prior to employment. 5–7 years of experience in higher education leadership, including academic administration, graduate education, or student services. Demonstrated experience with academic policy interpretation, student appeals, adjudication, or grievance processes. Proven ability to manage complex, sensitive, and high‑stakes cases requiring discretion and consistent policy application. Experience with conflict resolution, mediation, and due process in emotionally charged or legally sensitive situations. Strong written and verbal communication skills in complex cases. Experience leading or contributing to graduate student services or professional development programming. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in all student interactions.
