VP Business Technology

The Vice President, Business Technology is a critical member of the Technology Leadership Team, reporting to the Chief Digital & Technology Officer. This leader is responsible for defining and executing the business technology strategy and for leading the functional team members and subject matter experts who enable the company's core business systems.

The VP, Business Technology partners with senior business and technology leaders to translate enterprise priorities into scalable solutions. This role provides end-to-end leadership for business system implementations, upgrades, integrations, optimization, and ongoing maintenance, ensuring technology investments support business goals, operational performance, user adoption, and long-term value.

Business Technology Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and execute a multiyear business technology strategy and roadmap aligned with enterprise priorities and business goals.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive and functional leaders on technology capabilities, opportunities, risks, and investment decisions.
  • Lead portfolio planning and prioritization across business systems, balancing strategic transformation, regulatory and operational needs, technical health, and available capacity.
  • Establish clear governance, decision rights, standards, and measures of success for the business technology portfolio.
  • Represent Business Technology as an active member of the Technology Leadership Team and contribute to enterprise technology strategy, operating model, talent, and investment planning.

Business Partnership & Functional Leadership

  • Build trusted partnerships with leaders across business functions and develop a deep understanding of their strategies, processes, pain points, and future capability needs.
  • Lead and develop functional team members, business systems leaders, analysts, and subject matter experts who connect business needs with technology solutions.
  • Create effective engagement models for requirements, solution design, prioritization, testing, adoption, and post-implementation support.
  • Facilitate alignment across functions when solutions, data, processes, or priorities span multiple areas of the enterprise.
  • Communicate portfolio progress, risks, dependencies, decisions, and realized value clearly to executive and business stakeholders.

Business Systems Implementation & Transformation

  • Provide executive leadership for business system implementations, replacements, upgrades, integrations, and major enhancements from strategy through stabilization.
  • Ensure programs have clear business outcomes, accountable sponsorship, appropriate governance, disciplined scope, and effective risk and dependency management.
  • Partner with program management, architecture, engineering, data, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and vendor teams to deliver secure, scalable, and supportable solutions.
  • Promote process simplification and standardization before customization, with thoughtful consideration of business differentiation and local requirements.
  • Ensure business readiness through change planning, stakeholder engagement, training, testing, cutover, adoption, and benefits realization.
  • Establish a transparent intake, evaluation, prioritization, and delivery framework for business technology demand.
  • Drive outcome-based product and program practices that connect technology work to measurable business value.
  • Oversee roadmaps, financial plans, resource capacity, delivery performance, and interdependencies across the portfolio.
  • Identify and resolve barriers to execution, escalating material risks and tradeoffs with clear recommendations.
  • Continuously improve delivery methods, governance, estimation, planning, and stakeholder experience.

Application Operations & Lifecycle Management

  • Ensure reliable, secure, and effective ongoing operation and maintenance of business applications and related integrations.
  • Establish service levels, support models, operational metrics, release practices, incident and problem management, and business continuity expectations.
  • Drive application lifecycle management, including upgrades, technical debt reduction, compliance needs, platform health, and end-of-life planning.
  • Use performance, support, adoption, and cost data to prioritize improvements and reduce recurring issues.
  • Lead rationalization of redundant or low-value applications and processes to reduce complexity and improve return on technology investment.
  • Partner with enterprise architecture to ensure business solutions align with technology standards, target-state architecture, integration patterns, and platform strategies.
  • Promote consistent data definitions, ownership, quality, access, and controls across business systems in partnership with data leaders and business owners.
  • Ensure appropriate security, privacy, audit, regulatory, and internal control requirements are embedded throughout the solution lifecycle.
  • Guide sound decisions regarding configuration, customization, integration, automation, and vendor capabilities.
  • Encourage reuse of common capabilities and scalable solutions across functions, regions, and business units.
  • Oversee strategic vendor relationships, implementation partners, managed services, software licensing, and contractual performance for the business technology portfolio.
  • Partner with Finance, Procurement, Legal, and Technology leaders on business cases, investment plans, negotiations, renewals, and total cost of ownership.
  • Monitor vendor delivery, service quality, risk, roadmap alignment, and value realization; take corrective action when expectations are not met.
  • Maintain financial discipline across capital and operating investments and identify opportunities to optimize spend without compromising business outcomes.

Skills

  • Enterprise-level business and technology leadership with the ability to connect strategy, process, people, data, and systems.
  • Proven success leading complex, cross-functional business system implementations, upgrades, integrations, and transformation programs.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to influence, align, and communicate with senior leaders and diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience leading functional technology teams and subject matter experts in a matrixed organization.
  • Expertise in portfolio management, product or program delivery, governance, business case development, and benefits realization.
  • Strong knowledge of application lifecycle management, enterprise integration, data governance, cybersecurity, risk, controls, and operational support.
  • Experience managing technology budgets, strategic vendors, implementation partners, contracts, licensing, and managed services.
  • Ability to simplify complex issues, make sound decisions with incomplete information, and balance near-term delivery with long-term strategy.
  • Experience supporting global or multi-business-unit environments and leading through significant organizational and technology change.
  • Knowledge of retail, consumer, direct-to-consumer, or business-to-business operating environments preferred.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Build, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing global organization of functional leaders, subject matter experts, business analysts, product and application professionals, and other business technology resources.
  • Establish clear accountability, operating rhythms, performance expectations, and succession plans.
  • Create a culture of business partnership, customer focus, ownership, inclusion, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop organizational capability through workforce planning, talent development, knowledge management, and effective use of internal and external resources.
  • Foster collaboration across technology teams, business functions, geographies, and partners.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to travel as needed, both domestically and internationally.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
  • Master's degree or MBA preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive technology leadership experience including leadership of enterprise business systems and large-scale transformation initiatives.
