Job Overview As a Pet Stylist at Petco, you will provide professional grooming services to pets and deliver high‑level customer satisfaction to pet parents. Responsibilities Perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning. Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers. Prioritize pet safety and well‑being, monitoring for discomfort, illness, or injury and reporting concerns. Evaluate each pet’s needs considering coat type, skin conditions, and temperament. Interact professionally with pet parents, providing optimal customer service, answering inquiries, and offering grooming recommendations. Educate pet parents on at‑home grooming maintenance and product usage. Maintain a clean and safe grooming area, disinfecting tools and equipment, performing daily and weekly cleaning tasks per Petco hygiene policies. Assist with training, support, and supervision of entry‑level trainees when necessary. Qualifications Completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or prior professional grooming experience and/or technical grooming training. High school diploma or GED preferred (not required). Strong problem‑solving and independent judgment in routine to moderately complex grooming situations. Results‑driven, committed to productivity, performance, and ownership of grooming salon role. High attention to detail in delivering accurate and high‑standard grooming services. Passion for animals with a desire to continue a career in pet grooming. Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues, and grooming standards. Proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team members. Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy. Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule. The role may require bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, standing for long periods, and exposure to heights using ladders or other tools. The environment can be noisy and wet. Education & Experience Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or previous professional grooming experience, and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
