Position Summary

The Standard Wheel Loader / Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating wheel loaders and other heavy equipment to support daily production, material handling, loading, unloading, and site operations. This position plays a key role in maintaining efficient workflow while ensuring compliance with company safety standards, DOT regulations, OSHA requirements, and operational procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Safely operate wheel loaders, front-end loaders, and other heavy equipment in production, construction, landfill, quarry, or industrial environments.
• Load and unload trucks, trailers, hoppers, conveyors, and stockpiles efficiently and accurately.
• Transport materials such as dirt, aggregate, compost, mulch, debris, waste, or construction materials throughout the facility or job site.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns immediately.
• Maintain equipment cleanliness and assist with basic preventative maintenance as needed.
• Follow all OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and company safety policies and procedures.
• Work closely with supervisors, dispatch, and production teams to maintain steady workflow and meet operational goals.
• Assist with grading, backfilling, stockpile management, and site preparation activities.
• Monitor surrounding work areas to ensure safe operation around personnel, vehicles, and equipment.
• Complete required paperwork, inspection logs, and operational documentation accurately and timely.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Processing Equipment

• Monitor the loader, screens, stacker conveyors, belts, and rollers throughout the shift.
• Keep belts, rollers, screens, and other equipment free of material buildup.
• Safely remove obstructions and buildup when authorized.
• Watch for unusual noises, vibrations, leaks, belt problems, or other equipment issues.
• Report equipment problems to the Supervisor and Maintenance immediately.
• Do not perform repairs or tasks requiring Lockout/Tagout unless trained and authorized.

Preventative Maintenance (PM)

• Complete daily equipment inspections and required PM.
• Check fluids, leaks, belts, rollers, guards, tires, and other equipment components.
• Perform basic lubrication and operator-level maintenance as assigned.
• Complete PM and inspection forms accurately.
• Report equipment problems early to help prevent breakdowns and downtime.
• Do not operate equipment that has been taken out of service or identified as unsafe.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating wheel loaders, front-end loaders, or heavy equipment preferred.
• Experience in construction, quarry, landfill, aggregate, mining, recycling, or industrial environments preferred.
• Ability to safely operate heavy equipment in various weather and terrain conditions.
• Strong understanding of equipment safety procedures and hazard awareness.
• Ability to perform equipment inspections and identify mechanical issues.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Basic mechanical knowledge preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not required depending on location.
• Ability to lift, climb, bend, and work outdoors for extended periods.
