AmeriCorps
Georgia 4-H is a unit of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Cooperative Extension. The Georgia 4-H AmeriCorps program is managed by faculty and staff at the Georgia 4-H State office. The program provides a total of 26 half-time and 7 full AmeriCorps State members (ACMs) throughout Georgia to support our mission: to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society. This mission is accomplished, through “hands on” learning experiences, focused on agricultural and environmental issues, agriculture awareness, leadership, communication skills, foods and nutrition, health, energy conservation, and citizenship. ACMs provide research-based youth development programming in 32 counites in Georgia. School-based interventions are aligned with the Georgia Performance Standards. ACMs receive a modest, monthly living allowance. Full-time ACMs are eligible for free health insurance (including vision and dental) and can apply for childcare assistance. ACMs are required to attend a two-day New Service Year Orientation yearly (10/06-10/07/2026), additional face-to-face training, and monthly webinars. ACMs attend local, district, and state program activities and events. Member Duties ACMs provide direct services to youth in all areas of 4-H programming, focusing on in-school educational club meetings, preparing youth for 4-H Project Achievement, attending summer camp, and delivery of community service projects. ACMs collect and track data related to performance measures (in-school educational club meetings, the 4-H Project Achievement process, volunteer recruitment, and volunteer hours contributed), including survey administration and data entry. This includes numbers served (outputs) and the benefit received by the youth participant. Outcomes include youth demonstrating knowledge related to content presented during club meetings, best practices of and confidence in public speaking. ACMs support the volunteer program through recruitment, screening, training, and engagement. ACMs may assist with coordinating the county volunteer registration database. This is a direct service position that requires transport of youth and some night and weekend hours.
