As Deputy Division Chief, you will act as the second-in-command to the Division Chief, jointly overseeing all aspects of the organization's programs and operations. This role includes shared responsibility for a broad range of mission support activities, such as mission support policies, logistics, procurement, workforce management, training, and financial programs and services.

This position starts at a salary of $125,776.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $159,321.00 (GS-14, Step 10).

Typical Duties include:

• Providing technical advice and leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating national programs and processes; ensuring the integration with current strategic plans.
• Testing, developing, and adapting new management methods and theories for mission support programs sector wide.
• Directing and overseeing the execution of budget, logistics, facilities, procurement, and quality assurance programs.
• Implementing national financial policies; developing, evaluating, and improving financial policies, plans and processes.
• Overseeing the development and management of procedures and systems to support life cycle management for logistics and facilities.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:

• Providing expert advice and counsel to senior leadership to develop effective programs in key mission support processes including workforce, financial logistical, and facility management.
• Evaluating information and formulating programs that balance conflicting needs, requirements, and priorities related to budget, logistics, facilities, procurement, and quality assurance programs.
• Persuading, negotiating, and resolving issues for mission support requirements and resources, ensuring the integrity of all processes through review and monitoring of mission readiness program areas.
• Supervising assigned employees to meet established and anticipated program needs by setting priorities and project completion timelines, assigning and evaluating work, and adjusting priorities to meet changing program needs.

You must:

• Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
• Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 08/18/2026.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. If you do not meet the residency requirement and you have been physically located in a foreign location for more than two of the last five years, you may request an exception to determine if you are eligible for a residency waiver by meeting one or more of the following conditions:

• Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military

Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment.
