Dental Hygienist - Advanced - Elizabeth City

This position is located in the Community Service Learning Center in Elizabeth City. This position will be under the direct supervision of a qualified dentist to perform the following: Review and revise patient histories and record patient’s vital signs. Help acquaint patients with preventive oriented practice philosophy. Chart existing restorations on new patients, as well as the existence of clinical present disease. Perform thorough oral prophylaxes (cleanings) on scheduled patients which include proper use of ultrasonic cleaning devices, scaling instruments, polishing and flossing. Educate, motivate, and reinforce proper rationale and methods of plaque removal and control, with appropriate nutritional guidance as well. Apply topical fluorides and occlusal sealants on indicated patients. Make appropriate study models on indicated patients. Explain treatment alternatives to patients. Record specific treatment performed on patient chart, as well as other patient information as needed. Expose, process, and mount necessary x-rays. Aid in chair side assisting as necessary. Handle sharpening, sterilizations, and maintenance of all instruments and equipment. Help to reconfirm and appoint patients. Escort patients to and from operatories; clean and disinfect operatories between patient visits; keep operatories well supplied with necessary materials; help to maintain and manage patient recall system; aid with front desk duties if necessary; and participate in all staff meetings. Consideration will be given to an appointment at .80 FTE or 1.00 FTE. If the selected candidate is hired at .80 FTE, the salary and benefits offered will be reduced to reflect a part-time appointment. DENTAL MEDICINE SUPPORT POSITION – NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMANRESOURCES ACT. Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b, 457). This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS). Additionally, this position offers multiple voluntary options for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance as well as various supplemental plans including Critical Illness, Flexible Spending Accounts, Cancer, and Disability. While this position is not automatically eligible for the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS), new hires transferring from another North Carolina state agency and current ECU employees transferring internally who had been enrolled in TSERS in their previous employment will continue participation in TSERS.
