This is a hands-on ownership seat: you'll manage consolidation across 80+ legal entities representing ~11,000 units across 9 states and coordinate our annual audit and tax cycle.What You'll Actually Own (Essential Duties & Responsibilities)Monthly & Annual Close: Lead the full close process end to end: cutoff discipline, GL review, journal entries, accruals, reconciliation standards, consolidation and timely reporting.Multi-Entity Consolidation: Oversee consolidation and intercompany reconciliation across dozens of legal entities, ensuring clean eliminations and balanced intercompany accounts.Internal Controls & Policy: Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures that protect the company and support operational efficiency.Executive Partnership: Provide financial analysis and reporting insight that directly informs business planning and leadership's strategic decisions.Audit, Tax & Regulatory: Coordinate annual corporate audits, tax preparation, and regulatory filings as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors.Budgeting & Forecasting: Be a key participant in the budgeting, forecasting, cash flow monitoring, and reporting cycles alongside department leaders.Education and Experience RequirementsBachelor's degree in accounting or finance requiredCPA required10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager role in real estate, property management, development, or constructionDemonstrated ability to lead both directly and through influence — this seat doesn't currently have direct reports, but is expected to build and manage a team as MRK's entity count and portfolio scalesStrong GAAP, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, and audit coordination knowledgeExperience with Yardi, MRI, RealPage, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or similar platforms preferredYou'll Thrive Here If...You find real satisfaction in a clean close process and a balanced intercompany ledger across dozens of entities; this role lives and dies on that discipline, not high-level oversight from a distance.You want to be a financial partner to leadership, not just a reporter of numbers after the fact; the role expects analysis and recommendations that shape decisions, not just close-the-books accuracy.You'd rather build the control and reporting process than just follow one someone else built.Embrace New Ways applies here too; the role calls for streamlining and strengthening what exists.You can lead and influence people who don't report to you today, and you're ready to build and manage a team directly as the role grows with the company.Our ValuesServe the Community: give back and pay it forward.Embrace New Ways: obstacles are opportunities, and challenges are catalysts for change.Purpose Over Pride: lead with humility and a shared sense of responsibility to our missionDrive to Achieve: ambition and determination – we can achieve anything we can imagine.RequirementsKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesA passion for/interest in the affordable housing industry.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Detail-oriented, organized, motivated, meticulous, practical & flexible.Able to effectively handle multiple and shifting priorities and maintain professional composure.Excellent interpersonal skills; able to develop relationships with coworkers, business partners and colleagues.Able to work independently and as part of a team.Working Conditions/ Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to:Perform light work - exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.Travel up to four (4) times per year to Southern California, Philadelphia metro area, and other locations as needed.Ability to see, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity; sit, stand, walk and other similar tasks requiring physical activity.Ability to operate standard office/computer equipment.This is not an all-inclusive document.
