Summary The annual salary range, including locality pay, for this position is as follows: Albany, New York: $52,059 to $82,787 per year (GS‑07–GS‑09) Binghamton, Plattsburgh or Syracuse, New York: $50,460 to $80,243 per year (GS‑07–GS‑09) Additional positions may be filled using this announcement. Responsibilities As a Legal Administrative Specialist/Case Manager for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York, your primary duties will include: Managing discovery in complex criminal and civil matters, coordinating with agency partners, reviewing and indexing materials, preparing production packages and maintaining detailed indices. Analyzing and summarizing evidentiary materials, witness statements and documentary records to support case strategy. Assisting attorneys with deposition, hearing and trial preparation, including maintaining witness lists, drafting subpoenas, assembling exhibits, and operating trial presentation software. Conducting legal and factual research across legal and non‑legal databases, drafting discovery requests and routine motions, proposed orders and other legal documents. Providing general administrative support to case teams, including document preparation, file management and other ad hoc duties. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Qualifications – GS‑07 To be qualified at the GS‑07 level, you must meet at least one of the following: Specialized Experience: One year of experience equivalent to GS‑05 in the Federal service (or comparable paid/non‑paid experience) demonstrating routine legal assistance, discovery management, deposition and trial preparation, legal research and documentation. Superior Academic Achievement: Bachelor’s degree (or expected completion within nine months) and at least one of: upper‑third graduation standing, overall GPA 3.0 or higher (or 3.5 in core courses), or membership in a national scholastic honor society. Graduate Education: One year of graduate‑level education in a related field (Criminal Justice, Paralegal Sciences, Law) leading to a master’s or higher, earned from an accredited institution. Combination: Specialized experience plus graduate education as defined above. Qualifications – GS‑09 To be qualified at the GS‑09 level, you must meet at least one of the following: Specialized Experience: One year of experience equivalent to GS‑07, including advanced discovery management, legal research and documentation, deposition support, trial preparation and courtroom assistance. Graduate Education: Master’s degree (or LL.B.) or two years of graduate education leading to such a degree in a related field. Combination: Specialized experience plus graduate education, with the graduate education exceeding one full year. Additional Eligibility Information Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) and Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP) eligibility may provide selection priority. Foreign education may count toward requirements if it is comparable to U.S. accredited education. Selective Service registration is required for male applicants born after December 31, 1959.
