CT Technologist

Under general direction, the CT Technologist plans, organizes, and directs all technical aspects including equipment and related personnel of the CT department. Directs all clinical/technical aspects of patient care including proper use of equipment required for care of the patient, orientation, and education of personnel, quality improvement, and education along with infection prevention.
RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):- Review physician orders for accuracy, diagnosis, and applicability to selected CT protocol. Screen patients for contrast allergies, contraindications, and appropriateness that would prohibit or modify the CT exam. Communicate with Radiologists to discuss stat/urgent findings. If modification of a CT protocol is necessary, consult with radiologist to determine appropriate CT exam, and document changes as appropriate in electronic health record (EHR). Ensure other resources such as nursing, anesthesia, and scheduling are in order.
- Interviews patient (two patient identifier), conducts patient screening and obtains medical history pertaining to procedure's clinical criteria. Explains procedure and instructs patient on necessary requirements needed to provide diagnostic images.
- Answers questions, screening, and administration for oral and IV contrast for relevant exams. Administers intravenous injections of contrast material as appropriate, while observing patients for adverse reactions. Assists the physician as needed in performing procedures.
- Properly document images and information with patient identification data and appropriate labeling. Utilizes technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with age specific criteria.
- Completes exam charges and image documentation in a timely manner.
- Performs CT exams ensuring that patient meets radiation safety requirements to ALARA principles
- Assists patient in dressing for exam and attends to patient's physical well-being while transporting to and from exam room and positioning for exam. Instructs/communicates with patient and/or patient's family (as appropriate) regarding the tests performed and evaluates the patient's ability to tolerate.
- Performs quality control testing and reports problems with CT system and workstations to the service engineer/biomed with additional correspondence sent to the physicist and imaging leadership. Maintains various QA compliance including ACR requirements (ex. daily, monthly, yearly QC) and archives. Participates in accreditation imaging requirements.
- Adheres to hospital policies, procedures, competencies, regulatory compliance, infection control, hospital education, new yearly metrics/department goals, patient satisfaction, and fiscally responsible about equipment, supplies scheduling, overtime, etc.
- Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
- Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
- Must adhere to safety protocols at all times.
- Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
- Implement DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values.
- Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.
- This position requires respirator and fit testing. Required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
