Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health’s pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers. Health System Pharmacy is responsible for providing customized pharmacy program solutions that reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals, health systems and other integrated healthcare providers. It may also consult with and advise the healthcare team on prescribed medications, supplies and related processes. Cardinal Health manages Pharmacy Services for PAM Health, a nationwide leader in providing Long‑Term Acute Care (LTACH), Rehabilitation, and Behavioral Health Services. We are seeking a highly motivated pharmacist to lead two LTACH facilities in San Antonio. The manager will hold PIC at the PAM Health Specialty Hospital of San Antonio‑South Campus in the Medical Center. This team consists of two pharmacists, two technicians, and shared PRN staff. Pharmacy Hours – Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 4 PM, Saturday and Sunday 8 AM to 2 PM. Job Summary The Manager, Pharmacy coordinates, directs, manages, facilitates, and oversees the execution and evaluation of all administrative and clinical activities. Through the optimization of procedures, this role ensures consistent and efficient delivery to control costs, minimize waste, optimize customer relationships, and deliver positive patient outcomes while maintaining compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies. The manager also maintains inventory control and budget, and is responsible for staffing, monitoring staff activities, performance, and achievement of individual and departmental goals. Responsibilities Plans, coordinates, directs, and evaluates all clinical activities as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including supervision of refilling machines, medical prescriptions database entries, and dispatch of medicines. Plans, coordinates, directs, and evaluates all administrative activities as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including scheduling of pharmacy technician tasks, monitoring process compliance and monthly reporting. Implements processes and procedures to comply with regulations for medicine handling, including reception and storage of medicines, inventory and expense controls. Manages day‑to‑day activities of pharmacy technicians and monitors their performance to meet departmental goals. In the absence of medicines, communicates with nursing, doctors and administrative areas to provide alternatives and also makes and/or supervises preparation of interventional drugs. Maintains pharmacist certifications and database privileges and access controls to medical records. Provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist. Assesses and maintains pharmacy inventory and executes necessary orders, including reviews, to maintain optimal supply and ongoing availability of drugs, identifying and procuring alternative drugs to mitigate risks when necessary. Leads processes for hiring pharmacy staff, onboarding, and performance management, including leadership of competency evaluations and documentation. Manages internal workflows of acute pharmacy, including optimization of staffing and scheduling to maintain best‑in‑class and streamlined operations. Participates in meetings and provides insight to hospital committees to ensure coordination among cross‑functional groups. Assists in execution of plans for lowering costs, increasing efficiency, and driving profitable growth to support strategic business objectives in the acute pharmacy business. Assumes responsibility for Quality Assurance monitoring and completes End‑of‑Month reports as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or PharmD. Must be a "good standing" licensed pharmacist and/or eligible for licensure in the state of Texas. IV certified or ability to obtain certification. Hospital/Inpatient experience highly preferred. Pharmacist in charge or pharmacy management experience highly preferred. Ability to develop, implement and lead all aspects of pharmacy operation. Ability to see, hear, write, and speak clearly to communicate with customers and health care professionals. Excellent planning, organizing, and leadership skills. Strong customer orientation and negotiation skills. Ability to perform under pressure in emergency situations. Overall decision‑making responsibility. Ability to work on call or be in an on‑call rotation. Ability to occasionally lift up to 35 pounds. Ability to bend, reach, stoop, lift, and stand for entire shift. Anticipated salary range: $111,500 – $175,340.
