Responsibilities The staff registered nurse (RN) is a licensed professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for planning, delegating, and coordinating the nursing care of a group of patients during a designated time frame, utilizing the John Muir Medical Center Standards of Care, ANA's Standards of Practice and Professional Performance, and the California Nurse Practice Act, Title 22, and Title 16. The RN coordinates and provides care through the therapeutic use of self, nursing process, and the environment and technology, in partnership and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members. Education and Experience Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing Required: 1 year of Nursing in Emergency. Alternative: 1 year of Nursing in Critical Care may be considered. Alternative: 1 year of Nursing in Medical Acute Care combined with previous Emergency Department cross‑trained experience within 2 years of hire. Certification as an Emergency Nurse (CEN) or completion of an Emergency Nursing training program. Certifications and Licensure RN Registered Nursing – California Board of Nursing (required) BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required) ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support – American Heart Association (required) PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support – American Heart Association (required) TNCC Trauma Nurse Core Course – Emergency Nurses Association (preferred; required for trauma patients in WCMC) Approved Cardiac Rhythm Test – Must pass at time of hire (required if hired after 11/15/2018) NIHSS National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (no issuing agency certification) – Achieved by the end of orientation and annual competency. Skills Strong written and verbal communication skills. Effective team motivation and leadership. Schedule and Compensation Work Shift: 12:00–19:00–08:00 (no waiver). Pay: $87.06–$118.62 hourly, based on demonstrated/relevant experience and/or licensure; adjusted to the local market if hired outside the Bay Area. Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36. Location and Facilities John Muir Health operates the Walnut Creek Medical Center (554‑bed acute care) – ContraCosta County’s only designated trauma center – and the Concord Medical Center (247‑bed acute care). The system also includes the Behring Pavilion, a UCSF‑JMH cancer center, a 73‑bed psychiatric hospital, and multiple outpatient services.
