Position Summary

The EHS Specialist is responsible for coordinating health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure a safe workplace and full compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations. This role serves as a key liaison for medical services, workers' compensation, and environmental permitting to maintain a high-standard, compliant manufacturing environment.

Core Responsibilities

1. Health & Safety Management

Develops and enforces safety policies, systems, and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA regulations.

Coordinates facility inspections and tours to detect and mitigate accident, fire, and health hazards.

Leads investigations into accidents and injuries, preparing detailed reports for insurance carriers and legal proceedings.

Directs Team Member training programs focused on accident prevention, fire protection, and general safety awareness.

Provides expert advice on the selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

2. Environmental Compliance

Maintains the facility's ISO 14001 certification and supports the rollout of ISO 45001.

Manages RCRA and Hazardous Waste Management programs.

Oversees environmental permitting and monitoring, including Air permits, Storm water checks, and Waste water analysis.

Operates and maintains equipment used to monitor air, land, and water quality.

3. Medical & Workers' Compensation

Supervises company medical services and oversees injury prevention and vocational rehabilitation programs.

Manages workers' compensation claims, including contract negotiation and performance monitoring with insurance carriers.

Provides disability management training and education to Team Members and leadership.

Qualifications & Skills

Education: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university; or 46 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education: A degree in safety science, engineering, or industrial hygiene is preferred.

Certification: CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification is highly preferred.

Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of OSHA, TDEC, NEPA, and ANSI regulations.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to coach staff through complex or emotional issues and enlist cooperation for regulatory requirements.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Physical Demands: Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to walk and sit.

Lifting: Must regularly lift up to 10 lbs, frequently lift up to 50 lbs, and occasionally lift up to 100 lbs.

Environment: Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts in a loud environment. Occasional exposure to extreme heat, fumes, and toxic chemicals.

Schedule: Regular attendance is required, including availability for weekends and holidays as needed
