The Part-Time Ensemble Manager at Interlochen is responsible for coordinating and managing the logistics of orchestra and wind ensemble activities, ensuring smooth operations and successful performances. This role involves managing performance logistics, communicating with faculty and students, and providing organizational support to ensure that ensembles function effectively. The Ensemble Manager works closely with conductors, music faculty, and production teams to facilitate rehearsals and performances, contributing to the artistic growth and development of student musicians.

This is an academic-year position, running from late August through late May. The role is expected to average 20 hours per week, though hours may increase during peak performance periods, including concerts, festivals, tours, and other major ensemble events. Flexibility is important, as workload may vary throughout the academic year based on rehearsal and performance schedules.

Essential Duties:

• Support the Wind Ensemble and Orchestra courses. This involves regular communication with the conductors, faculty and music librarians to ensure seamless support of teaching and learning
• Liaise, plan and communicate with conductors in preparing and disbursing daily and weekly rehearsal and performance schedules for all concerts and events for both ensembles
• Create seating charts and diagrams for all programs per conductors' direction for both ensembles, using a program such as Vectorworks to align with Interlochen Presents
• Liaise with music librarians to pass out accurate folders and parts and collect them for all rehearsals and performances.
• Supervise the set-up and tear-down of seating for both ensembles for daily rehearsals, dress rehearsals and performances, as carried out by student stage crew (community service)
• Liaise with Percussion Faculty, Piano Faculty, Presents, & Instrument Services Manager in the moving of all percussion equipment, pianos and other equipment between MC 1008, 1010 and Corson as needed
• Clearly communicate to both Wind Ensemble and Orchestra students through Canvas, all attendance requirements, protocol, etiquette, and concert attire, as stated in the Course Syllabi
• Enforce proper concert attire for all student performances to achieve a professional and consistent appearance across ensembles
• Take daily rehearsal attendance
• Take attendance and be present for all student performances (some evenings & weekends)
• Act as the main point of contact with the Residence Life department to facilitate student schedules for all rehearsals and performances, and when students have other obligations that must be met during these times
• Use LMS Canvas in tracking attendance, making announcements, uploading information
• Liaise with the campus at large regarding the use of MC 1008 and 1010 for non-music events
• Participate in regular planning meetings with Music Division Leadership and Manager of Instrument Services

• Bachelor's degree in Music
• Experience performing in instrumental ensembles and/or management of instrumental ensembles
• Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, coordinate logistics, and effectively communicate with students, faculty, and staff
• Knowledge of concert protocols, rehearsal processes, and performance logistics is a plus
• Demonstrated ability to respect and engage with diverse people and perspectives, fostering an inclusive environment that values and supports all individuals
