Registered Nurse

The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse registered in Massachusetts who is responsible and accountable for planning and providing patient care for assigned patients in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care as set forth in the Nursing Department's Clinical Practice Manual. The registered nurse demonstrates initiative, knowledge and clinical skills in caring for the patient with complex needs. The Registered Nurse demonstrates the ability to effectively manage patients by assuming full responsibility for the assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation of patient care and is directly responsible to a designated nurse manager, or supervisor.

The Staff Nurse will be responsible for:

The position is a 36h night position in the procedural float pool as a procedural emergency care nurse. This RN functions as a critical care resource nurse across procedural services. This includes caring for acute STEMI/cath lab patients, emergency IR procedures, emergency neuro IR, care of the critical care patient.

This position includes weekend and holiday rotation per the MNA contract.

The RN must show evidence of the basic analytic thinking necessary to care for a group of patients. Must demonstrate observational skills and the ability to set priorities. Must be able to function under stress with good interpersonal and communication skills. Must demonstrate effective skills in applying hospital standards in area of service, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management.

Supporting the Procedural Float Pool specialty, the designated staff nurse:

Prepares patients for procedures and provides post procedure and extended recovery care for inpatient and ambulatory populations.

The rotation will include, but not limited to, pre/intra/post procedure Cross Sectional Interventional Radiology, Interventional (neuro, angio) Radiology, Infusion, Radiation Oncology, Procedural Recovery Unit, Endoscopy (main and BWH 850 offsite campus), Women's Health Center, Echo, Cath Lab, and Electrophysiology Lab.

The rotation may also cover echo contrast enhancing administration and pre-procedure evaluation.

Working collaboratively to provide excellent care to patients and families in the safest environment.

Required to work weekends and holidays per the MNA contract.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Education: Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current registration in Massachusetts. For newly licensed nurses a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is required.

More than 5 years procedural experience, or more than 5 years PACU experience, or more than 5 years ED, or more than 5 years ICU experience required.

IV skills required.

Cardiology experience required.

ACLS required.

Procedural sedation experience preferred.

Licenses and Credentials:

Massachusetts RN License Required

Other: Membership in professional organizations is recommended and certification in a specialty area is encouraged.
