Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Flatwoods)

Job Objective: The Nurse Practitioner performs direct psychiatric care in the medical office setting under the supervision of a licensed psychiatrist. The Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner obtains medical histories, performs medical evaluations on clinic patients, treats psychiatric problems, maintains records, and provides health education.Responsibilities and Essential Duties:Focus primarily on the population identified or suspected behavioral/mental health conditions and establish therapeutic relationships with these patients to add psychiatric expertise to the medical management plan and mitigate any negative impact that behavioral conditions can have on patients' overall health and well-being.Provide all aspects of patient psychiatric healthcare, including diagnosis, and treatment of various psychiatric and common medical conditions.Diagnosis and support the management of comorbidities and complications common to patients with behavioral/mental health conditions.Provide direct psychiatric services through initial comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, including prescribing and administering medications.Prescribe and monitor behavioral health medications prescribed.Handle psychiatric emergencies as needed.Communicate with the patient's primary care provider regarding changes in conditions or potential medication changes.Collaborate with supervising physician in regards to particularly complex behavioral/mental conditions.
