Outdoor Seasonal Caretaker

Job Description Westfield Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Seasonal Outdoor Maintenance Worker to join the Facilities team. This position is responsible for performing a variety of groundskeeping, landscaping, and general outdoor maintenance tasks to ensure that all school campuses are safe, attractive, and well‑maintained for students, staff, and the community. Key Responsibilities Operate riding and push mowers, weed eaters, edgers, and blowers to maintain lawns, athletic fields, and common areas. Assist with planting, watering, weeding, mulching, and pruning trees, shrubs, and flower beds. Perform basic outdoor maintenance tasks including painting fences or curbs, repairing playground equipment, and maintaining walkways. Empty outdoor trash and recycling receptacles and ensure grounds are free of litter and debris. Perform basic preventative maintenance and cleaning on hand tools and gas‑powered landscaping equipment. Qualifications and Requirements Experience: Previous experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or general maintenance is highly preferred but not required. Physical Ability: Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor, including lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, and standing or walking for extended periods. Environment: Ability to work outdoors for the duration of the shift in varying weather conditions, including summer heat and rain. Background Check: Must successfully pass a criminal background check and child abuse clearance as required by state law for school district employees. Skills: Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently or as part of a team, and operate machinery safely. Working Conditions Work is performed almost entirely outdoors. Seasonal position for summer and fall.
