ASPIRUS ST. LUKE'S in Duluth, MN is seeking a REGISTERED NURSE to join our EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT team! Salary Range: $45.02 - $68.87 Hourly Schedule/Hours: VARIED (ALL) SHIFTS, Variable Shifts Weekend Requirement: Occasional Weekend FTE: OCCASIONAL, 0.001FTE The Staff Nurse applies and demonstrates knowledge of the delivery of professional nursing care, including all aspects of practice, as defined by the MN Board of Nursing and reinforced in St. Luke's policies. Plans, delegates to, and organizes nursing personnel. Manages and coordinates information between patient, family and healthcare team members; provides for education of patient's families and staff and evaluates outcomes. Demonstrates the applied knowledge and skills required for the practice of Emergency Nursing through collaborative and autonomous practice which reflects current standards of practice as well as current St. Luke's policies and procedures. Integrates clinical knowledge and technical skills in the delivery of emergency care. Collaborates, supports, and provides services in all areas of the Emergency Department, Intake area, Triage, and Urgent Care. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: See Licensure/Certification/Registration requirements. Experience: Two (2) years of recent acute care nursing experience, or; one (1) year as St. Lukes Emergency Department RN within the past five (5) years, or; or one (1) year recent experience as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Critical Care Float Pool (CCFP), or Critical Care Resource RN, or; two (2) years as a Paramedic or Basic EMT with IV training, or; two (2) years of recent experience as an Emergency Department NA or Technician, or; RN who has completed a Capstone Nursing Internship in an ED. Recent experience is defined as occurring in the last three (3) years. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current license in Minnesota to practice as Registered Nurse. ACLS and PALS certifications within eighteen (18) months of hire. TNCC and ENPC certifications must be current or obtained one time within twenty-four (24) months of employment, or the incumbent must provide proof upon hire that they had obtained these certifications within the past 10 years, even if expired. Once obtained, TNCC and ENPC need not be renewed. Current ATCN certification is acceptable for TNCC. Successful completion of Critical Care or Emergency Nursing Orientation (ENO) education modules within eighteen (18) months of employment as determined by the Nurse Manager. BLS Certification with a designation of either BLS Provider or Healthcare Provider from either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or Military Training Network. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: N/A Experience: Preference is given to individuals with previous Emergency Nursing and/or Intensive Care Nursing experience, current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) verification, and/or certification in Emergency Nursing (CEN). Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of current principles and techniques of nursing practice; knowledge of the practical application of the nursing process and physical assessment. Ability to function as a team leader, primary nurse and role model; to accept individual responsibility and accountability for decisions and outcome; to communicate effectively with patients, families, personnel and Physicians and establish professional working relationships with the same; to recognize the legal limits of nursing practice; to maintain professional competency through continuing education and independent study. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Intermediate Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret bar graphs to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: Skilled at assessment and knowledgeable of growth and development. Provides appropriate care respective to the ages of the patients served per clinical environment. Maintains competency with Age Specific independent study requirements, with a passing score annually. STROKE PROGRAM SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: Demonstrates knowledge of signs and symptoms of stroke and the need to activate a Stroke Alert. Skilled at providing stroke specific assessments and interventions related to the care of the stroke patient, to include but not limited to, ED Stroke Dysphagia screening, neurologic assessments, and TPA administration. Maintains compliance in acquiring two hours of stroke specific education annually as a member of the acute stroke care team. Maintains compliance in acquiring stroke specific education annually as required for Primary Stroke Certification.
