Senior Software Engineer, Storage Infrastructure

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain systems that provide efficient access to new and growing datasets.
• Extend and improve services supporting internal data search and image processing.
• Operate and tune Elasticsearch indexing for core datasets.
• Own services end to end by measuring performance, creating alerts, participating in on-call rotations, and responding to incidents and performance anomalies.
• Determine methods and procedures for complex assignments and deliver solutions across variable technical factors.
• Advise other engineers and lead project teams or oversee lower-level engineers’ assignments.
• Contribute to the technical roadmap and shape architectural direction.
• Participate in design reviews and drive alignment on technical decisions.

Requirements

• Require 6–8 years of software engineering experience.
• Require production backend service and API development experience using Go, Python, or similar modern languages.
• Require fluency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude or Copilot.
• Require experience monitoring and operating highly scalable cloud-native software.
• Require experience with relational datastores such as PostgreSQL or MySQL and non-relational datastores such as BigTable or Elasticsearch.
• Require experience building, releasing, and supporting highly available and consistently performant services.
• Require strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote setting.
• Require experience improving codebases, documentation, and team practices beyond feature work.
• Require sound judgment in selecting methods and adapting complex techniques for results.
• Require the ability to advise team members on complex technical matters and adapt communication to key contacts.
• Require the ability to analyze complex issues and provide in-depth technical evaluations of distributed backend services.
• Prefer 6+ years of Go experience building production backend services.
• Prefer 6+ years of Python experience building customer-facing APIs.
• Prefer experience maintaining infrastructure with Kubernetes and Terraform.
• Prefer experience with cloud-based infrastructure and tooling such as AWS or GCP.
• Prefer experience working with geospatial data.
