Assistant Professor (In-Residence or Clinical X Series) - Surgeon Scientist

The Department of Urologic Surgery at our organization is seeking a full-time faculty member at the Assistant Professor level in either the Clinical X or In-Residence series. This role is intended for a surgeon-scientist with a specialization in urologic oncology, ideally focusing on research related to renal cell carcinoma. Faculty members in the Clinical X series are expected to engage in professional activities, teaching, research, and community service, while those in the In-Residence series are anticipated to focus on teaching, independent research, and creative endeavors, alongside professional competence and community service.

EXPECTATIONS

The ideal candidate will exhibit strong clinical and surgical skills in Urologic Oncology, with aspirations to develop an academic practice and a research program centered on renal cell carcinoma. Completion of an NIH/NCI T32 training grant is preferred, as the candidate should aim for a career development award, such as the NIH K08.

The successful applicant will show a deep commitment to delivering high-quality patient care, engaging in teaching and education, and participating in scholarly and creative activities. A well-defined and innovative research plan, along with a demonstrated interest in academic career advancement and excellent interpersonal skills, is essential. The ability to collaborate effectively across various medical specialties is also crucial.

Teaching duties will involve the education and supervision of medical students, residents, fellows, and PA/NP students. Active participation in relevant professional societies and educational organizations is expected, as well as meaningful contributions to departmental and school committees. The candidate will play a vital role in advancing the University's missions related to patient care, education, research, and public service.

The selected individual must promote collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment that encourages team science and multidisciplinary patient care. Adherence to University policies and sensitivity to the needs of patients from various backgrounds are essential.

This recruitment is specifically for the assistant rank, and the successful candidate will be appointed at this level, regardless of their qualifications.

The salary range for this position is between $346,267 and $565,810. This role includes membership in the relevant professional organizations.

The candidate must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States, as the organization will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the following basic qualifications at the time of application:

  • M.D. or M.D./Ph.D.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Urology
  • Eligibility for full and unrestricted medical licensure in California
  • Strong clinical and surgical expertise in urologic oncology
  • Innovative research plan and interest in urologic oncology research
  • Evidence of professional and/or scholarly achievements
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to secure extramural research funding
  • Experience in teaching within a diverse environment
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required upon starting:

  • Completion of an accredited Society of Urologic Oncology fellowship, including an NIH/NCI T32 training grant
  • Preferred strong research focus on renal cell carcinoma
  • Excellence in research that complements existing strengths within the School of Medicine and the potential to attract external funding.
