About the role The Systems Administrator (Clinical Information Systems) provides administration, maintenance, support, and optimization of clinical information systems utilized within a healthcare environment. This position serves as a liaison between Information Technology, clinical staff, and software vendors to ensure reliable operation, adoption, and continuous improvement of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and related healthcare applications. The Systems Administrator supports clinical operations by maintaining system functionality, troubleshooting technical issues, implementing software updates, providing end-user training, and promoting effective utilization of technology to improve patient care and clinical workflows. This position is designated as an Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II position and must comply with applicable Department of Defense cybersecurity certification requirements. What you’ll do Clinical Systems Administration Administer, maintain, and support clinical information systems and associated medical applications. Perform routine system maintenance, configuration, upgrades, and optimization activities. Monitor system performance and availability to ensure reliable operation. Perform software updates, patches, and enhancements for Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and related applications. Coordinate testing and validation activities following upgrades and system modifications. User Support and Troubleshooting Serve as primary support resource for clinical information systems users. Diagnose and resolve system issues, application errors, and user-reported problems. Provide technical assistance and guidance to healthcare providers, nursing staff, and administrative personnel. Document incidents, service requests, and resolutions in accordance with established procedures. Escalate complex issues to vendors or higher-level technical support as necessary. Vendor and Stakeholder Coordination Communicate regularly with EMR vendors and software providers regarding system issues, updates, and performance concerns. Track reported issues through resolution and ensure timely follow-up. Coordinate with Information Technology personnel, clinical departments, and leadership regarding system requirements and improvements. Serve as a liaison between clinical users, technical teams, and external vendors. Training and Education Develop and deliver training programs related to clinical information systems and technology enhancements. Create and maintain user guides, reference materials, and educational documentation. Recommend and implement educational initiatives to improve user proficiency and system adoption. Support onboarding and continuing education efforts for clinical staff utilizing supported systems. Workflow Optimization and Clinical Support Evaluate utilization and adoption of clinical information systems. Analyze workflows and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and patient care. Collaborate with clinical leadership to identify opportunities to improve technology integration within healthcare operations. Develop strategies to encourage system adoption and improve user engagement. Compliance and Security Ensure compliance with applicable Department of Defense, Department of the Navy, healthcare, cybersecurity, and information assurance requirements. Support cybersecurity initiatives and information security best practices. Maintain system access controls and assist with account management activities. Adhere to HIPAA, privacy, security, and organizational policies regarding protected health information. Qualifications Education Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Information Management, Healthcare Informatics, or related field; Bachelor's degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and experience may be considered. Experience Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting healthcare information systems, EMR systems, or enterprise applications. Experience troubleshooting software applications in a clinical or healthcare environment preferred. Experience supporting Windows-based operating systems and applications. Experience working with end users in a customer support capacity. Certifications Must meet DoD 8570.01-M and DoDD 8140.01 Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II certification requirements within six (6) months of performance start date. Acceptable certifications include CompTIA Security+ or equivalent/higher certification as defined by DoD requirements. Experience with Windows Server and Windows desktop operating environments preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and healthcare information technology. Understanding of healthcare workflows and clinical operations. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of Windows operating systems, server administration, and application support. Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage competing deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment. Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and information assurance requirements. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer workstation. Frequent use of hands and fingers for keyboarding, data entry, and operation of computer equipment. Ability to view computer monitors and read detailed technical documentation. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic communications. May be required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, or reach while installing or troubleshooting equipment. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to access offices, clinical areas, server rooms, and equipment locations throughout the facility. May require extended periods of concentration while analyzing technical issues and performing system maintenance. Primarily performed in an office, hospital, clinic, or healthcare environment. Frequent interaction with clinical staff, healthcare providers, and technical personnel. May require occasional after-hours support for system maintenance, upgrades, or emergency troubleshooting. May require work in secure government facilities and access to sensitive information systems. Security Requirements Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be able to obtain and maintain any required government security clearance or position of trust designation. Must comply with all applicable Department of Defense cybersecurity and information assurance requirements.
