Dietary Cook - Job Summary

The Dietary Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking meals for residents in accordance with established menus, dietary requirements, and food safety standards. This position plays an important role in ensuring residents receive nutritious, appetizing meals while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment. The Dietary Cook works closely with the Dietary Manager and dietary team to support the daily operations of the department and meet residents' nutritional needs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to established menus, recipes, portion sizes, and dietary requirements.
• Follow special diet orders and meal preparation instructions to accommodate residents' nutritional needs.
• Ensure meals are prepared and served on schedule.
• Follow proper food handling, storage, sanitation, and food safety procedures at all times.
• Monitor food temperatures and ensure food is stored and prepared at appropriate temperatures.
• Assist with meal preparation, portioning, and plating to ensure food quality and presentation.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and food preparation area.
• Monitor food supplies and notify the Dietary Manager when items need to be replenished.
• Follow facility policies, procedures, and applicable health and safety regulations.
• Work collaboratively with dietary staff to ensure efficient kitchen operations and quality resident care.
• Perform additional dietary and kitchen duties as assigned.

Required Education, Skills, and Abilities

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous cooking experience required or preferred, ideally in a healthcare, long-term care, rehabilitation, or institutional food service setting.
• Knowledge of food preparation, kitchen sanitation, and safe food handling practices.
• Ability to follow menus, recipes, and special dietary instructions.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Reliable attendance and transportation.
